ELL Testing Specialist

Part-time position within the Washington Elementary School District, accountable to the Principal.

About the role

Under direct supervision, conduct standardized language-acquisition assessments (listening, speaking, reading, writing) for students. Assist teachers in the classroom by providing materials, working with individuals or small groups on special projects, and supporting lesson planning and coordination.

Responsibilities

• Conduct standardized English language proficiency assessments (reading, writing, listening, speaking) at assigned schools.
• Read assessment prompts and record student verbal responses.
• Pre-score and record proficiency tests using provided scoring rubrics.
• Maintain testing logs for record-keeping and data on assessment administration and scoring.
• Record testing dates on test booklets and in the electronic database.
• Submit pre-score reports and test booklets to certified staff for review and dissemination.
• Work with students individually or in groups on special projects or assignments, including reading, mathematics, language development, and memorization of emergency information.
• Demonstrate skills and techniques to aid in student learning.
• Coordinate testing schedules and materials with the Program Instructional Coach.
• Prepare rooms for testing, including setting up tables and chairs, distributing materials, and performing cleanup afterward.
• Assist teachers in planning and coordinating lesson plans by sharing feedback about students.
• Ensure compliance with State and Federal laws for English Learners, including file audits, testing, and small-group instruction.
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High school diploma or general equivalency diploma (G.E.D.).
• Proficient fluency in English.
• Valid Arizona Identity Verified Prints (IVP) Fingerprint Clearance Card (must obtain and maintain).

Preferred Qualifications

• One year of experience working with children.
• Valid first aid certification.

• Regularly required to talk or hear.
• Frequently required to stand, walk, sit, and use hands to finger, handle, or feel.
• Occasionally required to reach with hands and arms.
• Must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
• Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Working Conditions

• Occasionally exposed to work near moving mechanical parts and outdoor weather conditions.
• Moderate noise level in the work environment.

Pay

$16 to $19.20 per hour.

Schedule

195-day calendar, part-time.
