About the role

The Electrophysiology (EP) Specialist at Sentara Healthcare's EP LAB at Sentara Heart Hospital in Norfolk, Virginia, assists the physician during diagnostic and therapeutic electrophysiology procedures and device implants. This position requires a Graduate of a cardiovascular technology program, or an associate’s or bachelor’s degree, and a Registered Cardiac Electrophysiology Specialist (RCES) certification. The role also involves providing patient care, acquiring and reducing pertinent information, and didactic and clinical training.

Responsibilities

  • Aids in diagnostic and therapeutic electrophysiology procedures and device implants under the supervision of physicians.
  • Assists in the preparation of patients for procedures, including pre-procedure counseling and coordination of care.
  • Monitors patient vitals and ensures proper equipment and supplies are available for procedures.
  • Collaborates with the EP team to ensure smooth operation of the EP LAB, including scheduling and managing patient flow.
  • Provides patient care, including monitoring vital signs, administering medications, and ensuring patient comfort.
  • Acquires and reduces pertinent information related to patient procedures, documenting findings accurately.
  • Participates in ongoing education and training programs to enhance skills and knowledge in electrophysiology.

Requirements

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • One year of related experience in a healthcare setting.
  • High School Grad or Equivalent.
  • Graduate of a cardiovascular technology program, or associate’s or bachelor’s degree.
  • Registered Cardiac Electrophysiology Specialist (RCES) certification.
