Electrophysiology (EP) Lab Education Coordinator & Cardiovascular Specialist III
About the role
This position may be based at either Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem or High Point Medical Center in High Point, NC. The role offers scheduling flexibility to support either a four- or five-day workweek. (40 hours per week.) The position is designed as a hybrid role, combining direct procedural staffing responsibilities with dedicated, protected time to support education, training, and staff development coordination across the Wake Area.
Responsibilities
- Develop, coordinate, and implement comprehensive staff development programs, including onboarding/orientation, competency-based training, in-service education, and continuing education for all staff.
- Support the design and delivery of department-specific educational initiatives.
- Monitor and ensure compliance with orientation processes and initial and ongoing competency validation, including tracking completion of required checklists and documentation.
- Plan, coordinate, and oversee vendor-led in-service training and continuing education programs to support clinical practice and evolving technologies.
- Partner closely with EP Lab leadership to design and implement educational programs that address individualized staff development needs and align with departmental goals and performance expectations.
- Collaborate, as appropriate, with hospital-based Professional Development Specialists to align educational efforts and leverage system resources.
- Provide orientation and serve as a clinical resource, role model, and preceptor for new and existing staff.
- Identify professional development needs and support staff in meeting role-specific expectations.
- Collaborate with EP education and professional development partners across the North Carolina/Georgia Division Heart & Vascular Service Line to promote consistency, best practices, and shared learning.
- Serve as a consultant on educational matters, providing feedback and recommendations to enhance the overall educational strategy and effectiveness within the department.
- Deliver exceptional and streamlined patient care during Electrophysiology Lab procedures by documenting, circulating, and scrubbing.
- Work alongside a care team of electrophysiologists, cardiologists, cardiothoracic surgeons, and other specialists to provide state-of-the-art therapies for patients with simple to complex arrythmias.
- Ensure emergency equipment and supplies are always ready; Recognize and respond to potential emergency situations as needed.
- Maintain knowledge of equipment operation, adhere to equipment safety guidelines & report any malfunctions.
- Complete & maintain accurate departmental records and logs in a timely manner by entering patient data and charges into electronic system, and safeguard patient privacy & confidentiality.
- Maintain professional relationships with patients, families, and colleagues through effective communication and responsiveness; sensitively address conflicts & concerns as needed.
- Monitor & evaluate patient stability during procedures, administer medications & treatments under supervision, and assist with advanced procedures.
- Offer mentorship and support to co-workers & trainees, participate in Continuing Education & in-service opportunities, and perform / maintain assigned point-of-care testing and annual competencies.
- Provide age-appropriate care considering physical, mental, and developmental factors; Regularly update knowledge on age-specific guidelines.
Qualifications
- Extensive experience in high-volume electrophysiology labs.
- EP lab scrub, monitor, and circulate experience.
- Precepting/mentoring experience supporting team development.
- Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing with current license as a Registered Nurse in NC and two years of RN experience preferred and 3 or more years of EP lab experience; or
- Completion of an Allied Health Technology Program (Radiologic Technology, Respiratory Therapy, etc.) with registry or license as it pertains to field of expertise and 3 or more years of EP lab experience preferred;
- Completion of Cardiovascular Interventional Program 3 or more years of EP lab experience.

Pay
