Electronics Mechanic Leader.

About the Role

This position involves leading a team of electronics mechanics, ensuring efficient workflow, and performing maintenance and repair on various electronic and target-related equipment.

Responsibilities

• Pass instructions from supervisors to workers and assign immediate tasks to team members.
• Ensure availability of plans, blueprints, materials, scenarios, and tools required for tasks.
• Obtain necessary stock or target components from supply locations.
• Maintain a steady workflow to keep the work crew productive.
• Monitor work in progress and completed tasks for compliance with supervisor instructions regarding sequence, procedures, methods, and deadlines.
• Answer workers' questions about procedures, policies, written instructions, and directives (e.g., technical orders, scenarios).
• Enforce safety and housekeeping rules.
• Work alongside other employees, setting the pace for the team.
• Perform organizational, direct, and general support maintenance on electronic automated and manually operated target devices, components, and related equipment.
• Conduct general target maintenance and repair of targets, target devices/components, and related equipment.
• Perform the duties of absent employees as needed.
• Operate all-terrain motor vehicles, including a 5-ton truck with trailer, and perform operator maintenance.

Requirements

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, including a background investigation.
• One-year probationary period unless previously met under 5 CFR Part 11, with limited appeal rights during probation.
• Pre-employment and annual physical examinations to ensure fitness for duty.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. as part of regular duties.
• Possession or ability to obtain and maintain a valid state Driver’s License to operate vehicles.
• Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.
• Requirement to work shift rotations, including evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
• Ability to work both planned and unscheduled overtime.
• Must obtain and maintain a Forklift Operator’s License within six months of appointment.
• Work outdoors in adverse weather conditions and on remote ranges with rough terrain.
• Compliance with OSHA safety standards.
• Must obtain and maintain an OF-346 Driver’s License within six months of appointment.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to perform the work of an Electronics Mechanic Leader without more than normal supervision, including:

• Leading or supervising common electronics mechanic duties.
• Using test equipment (e.g., multimeter, oscilloscopes, automated test sets) to diagnose malfunctions and troubleshoot electronics equipment.
• Repairing a variety of electronics equipment, systems, and devices.
• Working under the supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee.

Physical Effort and Working Conditions

• Physical Effort: Lifts and carries target mechanisms and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds; assistance is available for heavier or long-distance carrying. Work requires frequent bending, stooping, walking, standing, working in cramped positions, and climbing stairs.
• Working Conditions: Works inside and outside in all weather conditions, including on remote ranges with rough terrain. Exposure to abrasions, cuts, bruises, burns, electrical shock, falls, and explosions. Safety equipment such as hearing protection and hard hats is provided.
