About the role
The Registered Nurse Supervisor specializing in Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT) maintains a high standard of nursing care and contributes to the provision of high-quality ECT services. This role involves both pre- and post-operative care for individuals receiving ECT treatments and close collaboration with psychiatrists and anesthesiologists to ensure patient safety and comfort throughout the procedure.
Schedule: Full-time, Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–3:00 PM. Treatment days are Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
Responsibilities
- Provide patient and family education by explaining the ECT procedure and addressing concerns.
- Pre-procedure: Assess the patient, start IVs, and review consent and medical history.
- Post-procedure: Manage the patient's recovery from anesthesia, monitor for side effects, and prepare them for discharge back to their inpatient unit or home.
- Supervise Licensed Vocational Nurses (LVN) and Mental Health Technicians.
- Coordinate processes with phlebotomists, medical staff, and psychiatrists.
- Obtain pre-authorizations for ECT procedures through insurance.
- Provide quarterly reports and ensure supplies are ordered for the ECT department.
- Facilitate the delivery of care for patients receiving inpatient and outpatient ECT in collaboration with medical and nursing leadership.
- Demonstrate self-control in potentially volatile, hostile, or combative situations; meet deadlines; and work independently.
- Facilitate communication and collaboration between staff and other departments regarding patient care issues.
Requirements
- Current RN license to practice nursing in the State of Texas.
- BSN preferred.
- ACLS Certification required (must be attained within 30 days of hire date).
- Two years of clinical experience in Psychiatric/Behavioral Health preferred.
- SAMA certification (must be attained within 30 days of hire date).
