About the role
R&P Technologies is seeking a Master Electrician with a minimum of 3-5 years relevant experience working in ship repair onboard US Navy ships. The ideal candidate will provide training to Technician Level II and I personnel, report task completions and production obstacles, and execute plans of electrical installations.
Responsibilities
- Provide training to Technician Level II and I personnel
- Report all task completions and production obstacles to their Lead Technician
- Capable of standing in as Lead Technician when required
- Ensure all work performed is in accordance with ship specification requirements while complying with all OSHA, NAVSEA, ABS, local shipyard, and R&P safety policies and procedures
- Execute plans of electrical installations to include, but not limited to 115VAC/440VAC/Various VDC equipment, fiber optics, lighting, announcing, RF antennas, audio/video, interior communications and alarms, and network systems
- Operate efficiently in a team environment and demonstrate effective leadership qualities while dealing with junior personnel
- Receive mentorship/guidance from Lead Technician or Task Lead for questions on any assigned tasks that are not fully understood
- Execute plans of electrical installations for many different electrical and electronic systems such as lighting, announcing, 115V/440V electrical plant equipment, Uninterrupted Power Supply equipment, Audio/Video equipment, Antenna systems and many others
- Install electrical cabinets, fixtures, and equipment for various electrical systems
- Install safety and distribution components (e.g., switches, resistors, circuit-breaker panels etc.)
- Connect wiring in electrical circuits and networks using various MIL-SPEC connectors
- Pull in cables of various lengths and sizes to accommodate system connections
- Perform effective troubleshooting to identify hazards or malfunctions and repair/replace damaged equipment
- Potentially run shipboard availabilities with a small crew
Requirements
- Marine Electrician certification
- Minimum of 3-5 years relevant experience working in ship repair onboard US Navy ships
- Experience and multi-pin copper connector certification of cables per Navy Standard Item 009-73 (MIL-STD-2003-5)
- Familiarity with NAVY Standard Items
- Ability to read, understand and follow customer work item requirements, drawings, and wiring diagrams
- Keen attention to detail and quality metric driven
- US citizen with the ability to obtain/maintain a DoD Secret security clearance (current active Secret clearance is a plus)
- Fluency in English (verbal and written)
- Successful completion of Navy “A” School (“C” School is a plus) or successful completion of a Shipyard or commercial Electrical apprenticeship program (recognized shipyard apprentice graduates are a plus)
- Secret DOD security clearance preferred
- Experience and multi-pin copper connector certification of cables per Navy Standard Item 009-73 (MIL-STD-2003-5)
- Shipyard competent person certification a plus
- Proven experience as an electrician
- Prior experience supervising other personnel
- Demonstrable ability to use electrical and hand tools (e.g., wire strippers, voltmeter etc.)
- Ability to read and understand electrical and installation drawings and blueprints
- Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving ability
- Excellent physical condition with the ability to lift 50 pounds on your own
- Willingness to travel to various locations in support of ship maintenance availabilities
- Flexibility with regards to scheduling and planned support due to constant Navy movement
- Thorough knowledge of safety procedures and guidelines
- Valid Security Clearance, or the ability to qualify and maintain one
Qualifications
- Master technical skills and waterfront knowledge under supervision of a Lead Technician Level IV
- Must be a US citizen with the ability to obtain/maintain a DoD Secret security clearance (current active Secret clearance is a plus)
- Must have experience and multi-pin copper connector certification of cables per Navy Standard Item 009-73 (MIL-STD-2003-5)
- Must be familiar with NAVY Standard Items
- Must have proven experience as an electrician
- Must have prior experience supervising other personnel
- Must have demonstrable ability to use electrical and hand tools (e.g., wire strippers, voltmeter etc.)
- Must have the ability to read and understand electrical and installation drawings and blueprints
- Must have excellent critical thinking and problem-solving ability
- Must have excellent physical condition with the ability to lift 50 pounds on your own
- Must have the willingness to travel to various locations in support of ship maintenance availabilities
- Must have thorough knowledge of safety procedures and guidelines
- Must have a valid Security Clearance, or the ability to qualify and maintain one
