Electrical Technician III

Responsibilities

  • Provide training to Technician Level II and I personnel.
  • Report all task completions and production obstacles to their Lead Technician and stand in as Lead Technician when required.
  • Ensure all work performed adheres to ship specification requirements while complying with OSHA, NAVSEA, ABS, local shipyard, and R&P safety policies and procedures.
  • Execute plans of electrical installations for various systems such as lighting, announcing, electrical plant equipment, UPS equipment, audio/video equipment, antenna systems, and more.
  • Install electrical cabinets, fixtures, and equipment for various systems.
  • Install safety and distribution components (e.g., switches, resistors, circuit-breaker panels).
  • Connect wiring in electrical circuits and networks using various MIL-SPEC connectors.
  • Pull in cables of various lengths and sizes to accommodate system connections.
  • Perform effective troubleshooting to identify hazards or malfunctions and repair/replace damaged equipment.
  • Potentially run shipboard availabilities with a small crew.
  • Install, tag, and band copper cables on various classes of surface and submarine Naval Vessels.
  • Perform all duties required to layout, fabricate, and install electrical wiring, coaxial cable, onboard Navy vessels.
  • Troubleshoot and test copper cables and circuits.
  • Possess skills and abilities to perform the requirements of a shipboard or airframe electrician's trade with little supervision or guidance.
  • Read, understand, and follow customer work item requirements, drawings, and wiring diagrams.
  • Have a keen attention to detail and be quality metric driven.
  • Be familiar with NAVY Standard Items.
  • Have proven experience in marine electrical systems.
  • Demonstrate understanding and ability to use electrical tooling (e.g., voltmeter, megohmeter).
  • Have excellent critical thinking and problem-solving ability.
  • Have excellent physical condition with the ability to lift 50 pounds on their own.
  • Willingness to travel to various locations in support of ship maintenance availabilities.
  • Have thorough knowledge of safety procedures and guidelines.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Navy CAC or DBIDS security credentials.
  • Ability to obtain access to shipyards, local, and other various locations.

Qualifications

  • Must be a Marine Electrician with a minimum of 5 years relevant experience working in ship repair onboard US Navy ships (technical education may be substituted for a portion of the experience requirement).
  • Must have experience with and demonstrate proficiency with multi-pin copper connectors of cables per Navy Standard Item 009-73 (MIL-STD-2003-5), current certification proof desired.
  • Mil Fiber Optic certification (preferred).
  • Cableway inspection certification (preferred).
  • Experience with leading AIT teams during shipyard availabilities (plus).
  • Must be familiar with NAVY Standard Items.
  • Must be able to read, understand, and follow customer work item requirements, drawings, and wiring diagrams.
  • Must have a keen attention to detail and be quality metric driven.
  • Must be a US citizen with the ability to obtain/maintain a DoD Secret security clearance (current active Secret clearance is a plus).
  • Successful completion of Navy “A” School (“C” School is a plus) or successful completion of a Shipyard or commercial Electrical apprenticeship program (recognized shipyard apprentice graduates are a plus).
  • Proven experience in marine electrical systems.
  • Must be able to demonstrate understanding and ability to use electrical tooling (e.g., voltmeter, megohmeter).
  • Must have excellent critical thinking and problem-solving ability.
  • Must have excellent physical condition with the ability to lift 50 pounds on their own.
  • Must be willing to travel to various locations in support of ship maintenance availabilities.
  • Must have thorough knowledge of safety procedures and guidelines.

Pay

Exact salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Schedule

Navy movement and flexibility with scheduling are required.
