EHS Senior Specialist

About the Role

This position assists the site Environmental, Health, Safety, Security, & Sustainability (EHSS&S) Manager in managing, implementing, and executing all programs for environmental compliance, loss control, safety, security, health, fire prevention, emergency response planning, and all associated training. The role involves creating and maintaining programs to meet federal, state, local, and corporate environmental safety and health regulations while maintaining applicable records and documentation for inspections or audits. You will work with all departments, site and corporate EHS, government agencies, industry associations, and peers within the industry. This is a full-time, onsite position located in Solon, OH, reporting to the EHS Manager.

Responsibilities

• Assist in supporting and managing programs, policies, and compliance related to corporate and regulatory requirements.
• Develop and maintain a working knowledge of all applicable federal, state, and local regulations, as well as corporate guidelines and policies; educate plant staff and ensure compliance.
• Assist with creating effective training programs that satisfy site needs and improve understanding of all EHS requirements.
• Provide training (formal and informal) to employees, supervisors, and managers on safety policies and practices.
• Support hazardous waste (RCRA) generator requirements and assist with chemical waste management at the facility.
• Support and update emergency response programs for the site.
• Provide EHS orientation for all new employees, contractors, and visitors.
• Serve as an EHSS&S representative at the site.
• Work with the Employee Safety Committee to enhance and maintain the safety culture.
• Perform Gemba walks, inspections, and audits as required.
• Assist in incident and injury investigations and perform root cause analysis (RCA).
• Maintain a presence on the operations floor and provide feedback/coaching regarding unsafe acts and behaviors.
• Effectively communicate regulatory and corporate EHS requirements and expectations to site personnel.
• Assist in managing aspects of security for the site.
• Maintain knowledge of new developments, requirements, policies, and regulatory guidelines.
• Work independently with some oversight as needed.
• Perform other job-related duties as assigned, including support of EHS activities on off-shifts.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in safety, engineering, industrial technology, or a related field preferred.
• At least two (2) to three (3) years of practical EHS experience in a manufacturing environment. At least five (5) years of EHS experience without a degree in a related field.
• Certified Safety Professional (CSP) credential is preferred.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Tools and MS365 Apps.
• Ability to interact effectively with all levels of employees and management.
• Strong verbal, written, analytical, and persuasive skills.
• Comfortable with public speaking (small to medium-sized groups).
• Understanding of chemistry and chemical properties is preferred.
• Ability to wear a full-face respirator on the job (as needed).
• Possess a professional safety certification or ability to obtain one within the first six (6) months of employment.

Working Conditions

Typically works in an office environment with adequate lighting and ventilation and a normal range of temperature and noise level. Work assignments are diversified, and a frequent volume of work and deadlines impose strain on a routine basis. Occasional lifting up to 20-50 lbs. Office environment involves constant sitting while using the computer, constant use of sight abilities while reviewing documents, and constant use of speech/hearing abilities for communication. Must be able to function well under peak activity periods.
