Job Summary
Works collaboratively with neurologists and epileptologists to review and interpret continuous EEG recordings, annotate findings, and support clinical decision-making for patients undergoing EEG monitoring. This role plays a critical part in identifying abnormal brain activity and supporting high-quality, safe, and effective patient care.
Essential Functions
- Reviews and evaluates continuous video EEG recordings.
- Identifies, annotates, and documents normal and abnormal EEG patterns, seizure activity, and artifacts.
- Edits EEG records and prepares accurate documentation for physician review.
- Creates preliminary monitoring reports based on technical and reporting standards determined by the Epilepsy providers and applicable law.
- Presents EEG findings during daily rounds, including seizure frequency, duration, and trends.
- Aids in compiling EEG clips and summaries for case conferences and multidisciplinary meetings.
- Supports neurophysiology procedures such as electrocorticography, brain mapping, or intraoperative monitoring when applicable.
- Collaborates with neurologists, epileptologists, nurses, and EEG technologists to support patient care and quality initiatives.
- Maintains quality standards and follows institutional policies and regulatory requirements.
- Participates in education, training, and research-related activities as applicable.
- Stays up to date with current neurodiagnostic trends and developments and shares with team.
- Maintains technical skills and maintains relevant competencies.
- Aids in the application and maintenance of relevant accreditations including but not limited to NAEC, ABRET EMU credential, ABRET EEG lab credential.
Education
- Completion of an accredited electroneurodiagnostic program required
- Bachelor's Degree in Neuroscience or related field preferred
Experience
- 5+ years experience in the neurodiagnostic field required
- 2+ years experience in a level 4 epilepsy center that is also a level 1 trauma center with a pediatric population preferred
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Strong knowledge of EEG waveforms, seizure types, and normal versus abnormal patterns.
- Strong attention to detail and analytical skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
- Interpersonal skills necessary to communicate effectively with the patient, family, physician and other interdisciplinary staff in order to achieve optimum results.
- Proficiency with EEG software systems (e.g., Natus or similar platforms).
- Demonstrated understanding of the underlying principles of the physiologic neurodiagnostic measurements and analytical skills necessary to recognize technical problems with equipment and respond accordingly.
- Position requires a high degree of patience for successful testing of often uncooperative subjects.
- Ability to work independently and demonstrate effective time management.
- Membership in professional associations is encouraged.
Licenses and Certifications
- CLTM Certification for Long-Term Monitoring
- American Board of Electroneurodiagnostic Technologists required
