Education Coordinator
About the role
The Education Coordinator assists in the development and implementation of an educational curriculum that meets NYSED standards for preschool and school age students with disabilities. They provide mentoring and training to educational staff, participate in the identification, evaluation, and educational placement of students with disabilities, and serve as a liaison to NYC Department of Education, District/Regional Offices, and NYS Education Department representatives.
Responsibilities
- Identify appropriate curricula for students with disabilities from ages 5-22.
- Oversee appropriate educational curricula for students with disabilities.
- Provide orientation, and ongoing mentoring and training to educational staff in the development and implementation of Individualized Educational Plans (IEPs), classroom design, program implementation, and behavior management.
- Assist in serving as liaison to NYC Department of Education, District/Regional Offices, and NYS Education Department representatives.
- Assist in the organization and oversight of the initial and annual review process for students.
- Conduct observations and tours of students referred to the program, complete summaries, and assist school district with appropriate placement.
- Attend annual reviews if needed.
- Aid in the formation of class groupings and staff assignments.
- Provide Education orientation amongst hire to review Education policy and procedures.
- Participate in the recruitment, identification, and hiring of educational staff.
- Maintain consistent contact between families and school through monitoring communication in TEAMS.
- Be involved in outreach efforts to ensure full enrollment.
- Conduct tours of the school with prospective families.
- Ensure that curriculum is developmentally appropriate and meets the individual needs of the children.
- Provide mentoring and training to educational staff.
Qualifications
- Master's degree in education or a related master's program required.
- New York State Certified Teacher or related field required.
- Knowledge of relevant laws and regulations, including IDEA and the New York State Education Department, DOH, and Department of Justice.
