ED Tech, Ft. Lauderdale (Part Time, Day shift)

Works under the supervision of the Nurse Director and/or Manager, responsible for patient care and assisting with clinical and clerical tasks as directed by the Registered Nurse. Includes planning, implementation, evaluation, and intervention skills, as well as maintaining, stocking, and upkeeping the department, rooms, equipment, and supplies.

Responsibilities

• Provides care to patients under the direction of the RN, including:
  • Taking vitals
  • Collecting and delivering specimens to the laboratory
  • Performing EKG
  • Assisting in medical procedures
  • Assisting with ventilation
  • Performing CPR
  • Communicating with arriving cases
  • Setting up monitors
  • Completing checklists
• Conducts walking rounds with RN or LPN to ensure proper bedside handoff and continuity of patient care.
• Prepares for all specimen handling within hospital guidelines and policy; ensures proper handoff and delivery of specimens.
• Checks and assembles supplies, linens, and equipment for assigned areas to promote an efficient and safe environment of care.
• Collaboratively works with RN and LPN to prioritize patient care needs throughout the shift.
• Prepares discharge paperwork and includes school notes for patients and families.
• Provides point-of-care testing with documentation of results in EMR.
• Actively supports patients by transporting them to areas within the hospital for procedures and admissions.
• Promotes safety by actively participating in the "Time Out" process with medical and clinical staff.
• Accurately performs and records all point-of-care quality controls; documents department refrigerator temperature controls per departmental protocol.
• Provides continuous supervision and observation of behavioral health patients; adheres to non-violent crisis intervention strategies (CPI).

Requirements

• American Heart Association BLS required within 90 days of hire—must maintain active and in good standing throughout employment.
• American Heart Association PALS required within 2 years of hire—must maintain active and in good standing throughout employment.
• At least 6 months of experience in EMT, Medical Assistant, Phlebotomy, EKG, or other related healthcare fields.

Skills

• EMT license preferred.
• ACLS within 1 year of hire and in good standing preferred.
• Able to relate cooperatively and constructively with clients and co-workers.
• Able to complete basic competency and specialized skills lists for the position.
• Ability to communicate verbally and in writing and to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
• Ability to problem-solve, adapt standard procedures to individual patient needs, and react calmly under stressful conditions.
• Ability to be flexible and handle frequent reprioritization of patient needs throughout the day.

Schedule

• 12-hour shifts
