About the role
Monroe County’s Human Services Department is seeking a detail-oriented, personable full-time Economic Support Specialist. This role involves screening, interviewing, verifying, and processing the eligibility of applicants for income maintenance programs. Most work and training are completed virtually via telework, including state-led virtual instructor training. After training, the position transitions to a call center environment, with a mix of phone work and case management. Mondays and high call volume days may require full-time phone coverage. Attendance is mandatory during the first 12-16 weeks of training.
Responsibilities
- Screen, interview, and verify applicants for income maintenance programs
- Process eligibility determinations for program applicants
- Work virtually via telework, including completing state-mandated virtual training
- Serve in a call center, balancing phone work and case management (typically half-time each, with full-time phone coverage on Mondays and high-volume days)
Requirements
- Associate degree in bookkeeping, accounting, financial management, or a related field or a minimum of two years of related experience
- Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and driver liability insurance
- Computer proficiency
- Candidates with an equivalent combination of training and experience may also be considered
Qualifications
- Bilingual fluency in Spanish is a plus
- Detail-oriented and personable
Pay
Starting salary: $21.09/hour
Schedule
- Hybrid schedule: primarily telework with some in-office hours
- Mandatory attendance during the first 12-16 weeks of training
