About the Role
This position is accountable for performing echocardiography evaluations and effectively identifying cardiac and/or other physiological anomalies. Additionally, this role serves as the primary assistant to physicians with invasive and non-invasive cardiac clinical procedures related to echocardiography. The position supports the mission, vision, values, and strategic initiatives of Mary Washington Healthcare and demonstrates a commitment to quality service for patients, the public, and co-workers.

Responsibilities
- Performs echocardiograms, stress echocardiograms, transesophageal echocardiography, and other studies to assist physicians in identifying cardiac and/or other physiological anomalies.
- Records patient anatomy, reports physiological aberrations, and suggests additional procedures for the physician’s consideration to optimize diagnosis and expedite therapeutic interventions.
- Prepares reports and accurately documents patient procedures in accordance with department policy.
- Initiates preventive maintenance and minor repairs on medical devices in accordance with department and hospital standards.
- Maintains supply inventory.
- Monitors the development of technicians in the application of various echocardiography procedures to ensure compliance and effective patient care.
- Participates in the training and education of technicians and others to develop understanding of the discipline.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school graduate.
- Graduation from an accredited echocardiography training course.
- Preferred: Associate’s degree in medical science.
Qualifications
- AHA Healthcare Provider CPR certification.
- One of the following certifications: Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS), Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS), Registered Congenital Cardiac Sonographer (RCCS), or Canadian Registered Cardiac Sonographer (CRCS).
Physical Requirements
- Constant (67-100% of workday) walking, standing, use of arms and hands.
- Frequent (34-66% of workday) bending, stooping, kneeling, and squatting.
- Ability to lift 35 lbs.
- Ability to push and pull 20 lbs.
- Auditory and visual skills, including color determination.
- Ability to work in confined spaces and reach above/overhead.

Environmental Requirements and Exposure Hazards
- Potential risk of exposure to radiation and toxic chemicals.
- Potential for exposure to bloodborne pathogens; must be able to wear appropriate personal protective equipment.
- Clinical positions in Mary Washington Home Health and/or Hospice must also meet driving requirements.

Pay
Pay Range: $41.41 - $62.11 per hour
