Responsibilities
- Manage the accounting department including invoicing, accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, assets, risk management, and general ledger. Train, mentor, and supervise accounting staff.
- Develop, document, and monitor processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls, ensure efficient and effective transaction processing, and provide relevant, timely financial reporting.
- Develop, implement, and monitor a management reporting process that includes financial and operating metrics and benchmarks. Prepare timely monthly financial reports.
- Prepare and coordinate budgets and forecasts. Monitor for variances and trends. Ensure financial plans are consistent with organizational goals.
- Maintain and manage cash flow. Monitor debt and debt covenant compliance. Manage commercial banking.
- Interface with auditors, banks, lessors, insurance agents, banks, and other external partners.
- Ensure that the company complies with local, state, and federal reporting and tax requirements.
- Special projects and additional duties as needed.
- Oversee the payroll procedures, resolve higher-level queries and requests from the management group. Must be capable of multitasking, customer relations, and time management.
- Maintain driver records within payroll system; ensures accuracy and timeliness.
- Respond to driver inquiries in a diplomatic and efficient manner.
- Carry out established rules and policies to ensure consistency in standard, and to protect company interests.
- Process driver trip packets daily.
- Perform combination of routine calculating, posting, and verifying duties to maintain record in accuracy.
- Comply with federal, state, and company policies, procedures, and regulations.
- Reconcile or note and report discrepancies found in records.
- Weekly filing and scanning of documents for safe keeping, and code documents for files according to company procedures.
- Pay employees by receiving and verifying expenses, backup documents, and requests for advances.
- Protect organization's value by keeping information confidential internally and externally.
- Input loads from scratch to load competition.
- Contact customers to update if issues arise during after-hours with loads.
- Respond to complaints and resolve issues aiming to customer contentment and the preservation of the company's reputation.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting
- 7 Years relevant progressive experience
- CPA, CMA, MBA a plus
- Transportation experience a plus
- Business process improvement experience
- Strong technical skills including computerized accounting systems (including report writing), Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, superior interpersonal skills, and a collaborative management style are mandatory. Strong ability to manage through influence. Must work well with people inside and outside the company at all levels. Must be comfortable discussing opposing points of view.
- Comfortable in a fast-paced, dynamic team environment
Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years of payroll experience
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Good communication skills
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Good planning and organizational skills to balance and prioritize work
- Microsoft Office and experience in the use of Outlook, Word, and Excel is a definite asset.
