About the Division

The Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is seeking a passionate leader who enjoys motivating, developing, and guiding people to reach common goals while driving results for customers and employees across Colorado.

What We Do

The Driver License section provides Colorado credentials to citizens throughout the state, including driver licenses, instruction permits, commercial driver licenses, and identification cards.

Primary Duties

  • Interact with customers as the primary point of contact, communicating about their needs and eligibility while ensuring compliance
  • Assess applicant behavior and source documents, exercising first-line decision-making related to acceptability of source documents, proof of identity, suspected fraud, and medical requirements
  • Process computer-generated driver's license, identification documents, and hearing requests
  • Administer written, oral, and automated testing and grade examinations for all classes of commercial, standard, and motorcycle licenses and permits
  • Qualify applicants for a driver's license and Colorado ID card by determining applicant needs and eligibility
  • Assess authenticity of documentation by comparing applicant statements with available data
  • Collect and account for money received for all documents issued, including maintaining a cash drawer, counting cash, and balancing receipts

Minimum Qualifications

Must meet one of the following or any combination of experience/education:

  • Option 1: 1 year of experience in a customer service role
  • Option 2: College or university coursework in Business Administration, Accounting, Public Administration, Management, Information Technology, or similar field may substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis

  • Customer service skills utilizing conflict resolution techniques

  • Prior work in a high stress environment maintaining a professional attitude
  • Collaboration and teamwork skills
  • Prior work in accounting, counting cash, and balancing receipts

Training and Certification

Newly hired (or transferred) Driver License Technician Trainees are designated "in training" for the first year in this position. Trainees receive Driver License Fundamentals (DLF) training and regular DLF skills evaluations. Before completing one year in position, Trainees are required to complete DLF Certification. After one year in the position, the Trainee may be reallocated to a Technician II. Failure to achieve DLF Certification during the first year in position may result in removal from position and possible termination of employment.

Work Environment

This position reports onsite at the Aurora Driver License Office, located at 2305 S. Townsend Ave., Unit C, Montrose CO 81401. May be required to travel and work between multiple Driver License Offices. The successful candidate will be required to sit and stand for long periods throughout the day.

Residency Requirement

This posting is only open to residents of the State of Colorado at the time of submitting your application. Applicants may be ineligible if they do not have a Colorado address and a Colorado State issued Driver's License at the time of application.
