About the role

This position will be based out of the Northern Indiana region. The successful candidate will perform subsurface exploration duties using conventional drilling techniques, including auger drilling, mud rotary drilling, air rotary drilling, and diamond bit coring. Work may also include the installation of instrumentation such as piezometers, monitor wells, and inclinometers. The role requires a self-starter with high attention to detail and flexibility in daily execution of duties and deliverables. Daily tasks include surveying and locating drilling points, conducting site reconnaissance, loading/unloading tooling, materials, and samples, classifying soil and rock samples, performing routine maintenance and basic repairs on drilling equipment, and preparing internal (daily field forms) and external (DOT Logs) paperwork.

Responsibilities

  • Operate a geotechnical drill rig to advance boreholes in soil up to 100 feet.
  • Oversee a 2–3-person drill crew in all tasks associated with drilling operations.
  • Install instrumentation and monitoring wells.
  • Perform routine repairs and maintenance on drilling equipment.
  • Perform basic surveying, site reconnaissance, and utility clearance tasks.
  • Drive all forms of drilling equipment to and from project locations.
  • Independently inspect and complete routine maintenance of equipment.
  • Follow safety rules, guidelines, and standards for all projects; participate in pre-task planning.
  • Report any safety issues or concerns to management.
  • Maintain quality standards on all projects.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience.
  • Able to perform NQ rock coring.
  • Able to perform mud rotary drilling.
  • Class A Commercial Driver’s License or ability to obtain one within 60 days of hire.
  • Excellent time management skills — understanding and setting priorities to realize value-added and focused activities and deliverables.
  • Excellent listening and communication skills.
