Driller in South Central Michigan
About the Role
This position will be based out of the South-Central Michigan region. The successful candidate will perform subsurface exploration duties using conventional drilling techniques, including auger drilling, mud rotary drilling, air rotary drilling, and diamond bit coring. Work may also include the installation of instrumentation such as piezometers, monitor wells, and inclinometers. The role requires a self-starter with high attention to detail and flexibility in daily execution of duties and deliverables.
Responsibilities
- Operate a geotechnical drill rig to advance boreholes in soil up to 100 feet.
- Oversee a 2–3-person drill crew in all tasks associated with drilling operations.
- Install instrumentation and monitoring wells.
- Perform routine repairs and maintenance on drilling equipment.
- Conduct basic surveying, site reconnaissance, and utility clearance tasks.
- Drive all forms of drilling equipment to and from project locations.
- Inspect and complete routine maintenance of equipment.
- Follow safety rules, guidelines, and standards for all projects; participate in pre-task planning and report safety issues to management.
- Maintain quality standards on all projects.
- Perform daily tasks including surveying and locating drilling points, conducting site reconnaissance, loading/unloading tooling, materials, and samples, classifying soil and rock samples, and preparing internal and external paperwork (e.g., daily field forms, DOT Logs).
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum 1 year of experience.
- Able to perform NQ rock coring and mud rotary drilling.
- Possess a Class A Commercial Driver’s License or ability to obtain one within 60 days of hire.
- Excellent time management skills, including understanding and setting priorities.
- Excellent listening and communication skills.
