About the Role

The Drill and Shovel Mechanic repairs and maintains all loading and drilling equipment through planned maintenance; monitors equipment; communicates equipment needs and issues; partners with operations departments and mobile planning to provide both tactical and strategic support for the needs of the mine to operate in an effective, efficient and safe manner.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventative maintenance such as changing oil, greasing, and replacing components on a scheduled routine basis on Hitachi EX5500 hydraulic shovels, P&H Electric 4100 XPC shovel, Komatsu PC 7000 Shovels, Atlas Copco hydraulic PV120 and DML drills.
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose equipment malfunctions by utilizing service manuals, parts books, electrical, and hydraulic manuals.
  • Capable of reading and disseminating information from schematics and maintenance manuals.
  • Communicates and coordinates all repairs with the maintenance supervisor.
  • Ability to order correct parts for procurement from the warehouse or supplier.
  • Implements continuous improvement of maintenance strategy that fully utilizes available workforce to achieve maximum equipment availability.
  • Performs work area housekeeping duties.
  • Determines if work areas are safe and free of hazards. Performs Field Level Risk Assessments.
  • Perform basic welding and fabrication tasks.
  • Determines severity of equipment down times and estimates time to make repairs.
  • Responsible for compliance with company contamination control policies.
  • Unwavering commitment to environmental stewardship including immediately reporting and mitigating spills and other environmental impacts.

Qualifications

  • Must be able to communicate effectively, in English using all standard forms of business communication.
  • Ability to work in a team oriented environment and support a 24/7 operation in strenuous physical conditions both indoors and outdoors, day and night shift.
  • Excellent organizational and problem solving skills.
  • Understanding of failure and wear analysis.
  • Strong understanding of safety policies and procedures relating to mine equipment and maintenance practices (i.e. guarding, blocking, lock out tag out).
  • Own and maintain required personal tools required.
  • Valid Driver License required.

Preferred Experience

  • Individuals with strong experience in Shovel and Drill hydraulic and electrical systems preferred.
  • Five years' experience in a mine maintenance environment preferred.
  • Experience with Cummins, Cat, and MTU/Detroit engines is desirable.

Schedule

Typically works a rotating 5-4 schedule.
