Schedule

  • Full Time
  • Office hours: Monday–Thursday 8am–5pm, Friday 7am–2pm, Saturday 8am–1pm
  • Flexibility to work earlier or later as needed
  • Must be available to work any shift within these hours

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED Equivalent
  • Basic computer skills
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Excitement to learn and grow
  • Favorable result on Background Check
  • Must be able to provide proof of identity and right to work in the United States

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate patient flow
  • Assist the doctor in preliminary testing
  • Verify medical and vision insurances
  • Effectively communicate with patients, doctors, and managers
  • Answer inquiries through phone, email, and in-person requests
  • Embrace and execute our Total Patient Experience to build relationships with all patients while delivering great medical support
  • Comply with all company policies and procedures including HIPAA
  • Practice urgency at all times placing value on a patient’s time, as well as the doctor’s time and schedule
  • Operate manual lensometer, auto-lensometer, autorefractor/keratometer, retinal camera, visual field, GDX or OCT
  • Follow scripting for testing equipment (photos, visual fields, visual activity, etc.)
  • Clean all examination equipment including tonometer tip
  • Interact with all levels of employees in a courteous, professional manner at all times
  • Perform general office duties and cleaning as assigned by manager
  • Consistently create a positive work environment by being team-oriented and patient-focused
  • Commitment to work hours that meet the needs of the business which may include weekends, schedule changes or an extended schedule

Qualifications

  • Previous medical office experience preferred; previous ophthalmic experience strongly preferred
  • Minimum of 1 year in a position interacting with customers/patients or the equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook

About the Role

An Optometric Technician is a valuable asset to an optometrist as they assist in providing a world-class Total Patient Experience. This team member handles a wide range of duties while using optical equipment to perform the initial testing needed to prepare a patient for an exam with an Optometrist.

Work Environment

  • Work is primarily performed in a standard office or clinical setting
  • Travel to other locations may be required to carry out essential job duties and responsibilities

Physical Requirements

  • Frequent walking (75%), sitting (50%), and standing (50%)
  • Regular bending, stooping, and reaching (25–50%)
  • Lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling items up to 25 lbs
  • Strong fine motor skills and full use of hands for constant grasping, writing/typing, and use of technology
  • Visual and auditory acuity—including color, depth, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus—required 100% of the time
  • Occasional driving or climbing may be necessary
