Dispatcher

Full-time, year-round position (40 hours per week) serving as the first point of contact for the campus community in Campus Safety Services.

Responsibilities

• Handling emergency and routine calls and maintaining daily logs
• Dispatching officers, monitoring multiple computerized alarm and card access systems, and appropriately responding to and directing other calls
• Checking out equipment, keys, and access cards
• Implementing emergency paging systems
• Occasional opportunities to work at events and serve as a Campus Safety Officer when available
• Other duties as needed

Requirements

• Ability to provide exemplary customer service and use excellent communication skills to build rapport over the telephone
• Ability to handle routine and emergency (including medical and psychological) situations with excellent judgment, including when multiple situations arise simultaneously
• Attention to detail and strong computer competence
• Familiarity and interest in working with college-age students
• Strong commitment to the principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion
• Computer expertise, oral and written communication skills, and ability to work collaboratively with others
• Valid driver’s license required at the time of application
• Minimum of two (2) years of experience in a public safety or security-related role preferred

Schedule

• Fixed 5/2 schedule: five shifts on, two shifts off (evenings and nights only)
• Shift hours: 7:00 PM to 3:00 AM on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday; 11:30 PM to 7:30 AM on Sunday and Monday
• Days off: Tuesday and Wednesday
• Eligible for premium pay, including overtime and shift differentials for holidays, weekends, emergency snow response, and other qualifying shifts
• Schedules subject to change based on department needs; mandatory shifts, overtime, and holiday hours may be required
• Some periods, based on the academic calendar, may restrict time off availability

Pay

$22.00 to $24.00 per hour, commensurate with experience.
