About the role
The Dispatcher serves as the main point-of-contact for company drivers, coordinating routes, shipments, and compliance while building strong relationships with clients, drivers, and agents.
Responsibilities
- Communicate with Planners to plan driver routes and help drivers choose efficient courses.
- Coordinate with drivers to locate available agents for incoming shipments and labor.
- Communicate with agents to arrange shipments, set up labor, and address special handling issues.
- Record shipment details, arrange pick-up times, and discuss customer requirements.
- Prepare dispatch documents, generate bills, and issue invoices.
- Maintain records of dispatched calls, driver routes, route changes, and delivery/pickup times.
- Stay updated on DOT regulations, industry changes, and UniGroup policies.
- Ensure Armstrong drivers comply with all DOT, safety, and compliance regulations.
- Review drivers’ logs, including dispatched calls and arrival times.
- Monitor truck repairs, maintenance schedules, and customer shipping schedules.
- Log customer complaints and perform other duties as assigned by management.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED; Bachelor's or Associate Degree in Transportation/Logistics preferred.
- 2-3 years of experience as a Truck Dispatcher; experience with a moving/relocation company is highly preferred.
- Proven ability to schedule drivers, plan routes, and dispatch drivers to customer locations.
- Extensive customer service experience, including generating freight bills and invoices.
- Experience with Transportation Management Software (TMS).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Knowledge of transportation regulations and laws.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and time management skills.
Physical Requirements
- Close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth vision with the ability to adjust focus.
- Regularly required to talk and hear.
- Occasional lifting of office products and supplies up to 25 pounds.
- Ability to sit for long periods; stand, walk frequently, bend, stoop, and reach occasionally.
