Dispatcher

Responsibilities

• Sets up vehicle schedules and ensures routes are covered when staff is absent.
• Communicates with drivers during incidents or accidents.
• Enforces policies and procedures.
• Dispatches and drives buses as needed.
• Maintains Real-Time Passenger Information System.
• Communicates with drivers via radio and demand response scheduling software.
• Groups requests for service into efficient groups and prepares trip logs.
• Schedules maintenance and repairs for vehicles.
• Sells trip tickets.
• Answers phone lines and prepares reports.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated competency as a driver.
• A thorough understanding of AppalCART policies and procedures.
• Completion of AppalCART First Aid, CPR, and driver training courses.
• High school diploma or equivalent.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Working knowledge of street locations and geographical conditions.
• Ability to handle multiple tasks under pressure.
• Effective communication skills with diverse employees and the public.
• Proficiency in CTS scheduling software and Next Bus.
