Director Security Emergency Management

About the role

The Director of Security & Emergency Management supports the Administrative Director of Support Services in the operational coordination and implementation of organizational programs related to Emergency Management, Workplace Violence Prevention, Security Operations, Environment of Care, and Life Safety compliance activities throughout Hunterdon Health facilities and offsite locations.

Responsibilities

• Provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for organizational programs related to Emergency Preparedness, Healthcare Security, Workplace Violence Prevention, Environment of Care, Life Safety, and Environmental Safety throughout Hunterdon Health facilities and offsite locations.
• Oversees integrated public safety operations supporting organizational resilience, regulatory compliance, emergency response readiness, and safe healthcare environments.
• Directs healthcare security operations throughout the organization including staffing operations, officer deployment, investigations, access control activities, visitor management operations, workplace violence response, emergency response coordination, and security technology management.
• Oversees Security leadership personnel, Security Officers, Patient & Visitor Ambassadors, and related operational activities supporting safe and professional healthcare security operations.
• Provides executive oversight for the Workplace Violence Prevention Program including multidisciplinary committee leadership, policy development, environmental risk assessments, training initiatives, incident review, corrective action planning, and regulatory compliance activities.
• Directs organizational Emergency Preparedness activities including the development, implementation, maintenance, and annual review of the Emergency Operations Plan (EOP), Hazard Vulnerability Analysis (HVA), emergency response procedures, continuity planning, and preparedness initiatives.
• Oversees emergency preparedness drills, exercises, active shooter training, Emergency Operations Center operations, Hospital Incident Command System (HICS) activities, after-action reporting, and corrective action planning associated with all-hazards emergency management activities.
• Provides leadership during organizational emergencies, incidents, operational disruptions, and planned events. Supports Hospital Incident Command System (HICS) operations, Emergency Operations Center coordination, emergency communications, incident documentation, operational decision-making, and multidisciplinary emergency response activities in accordance with organizational emergency management procedures.
• Oversees security technology platforms and emergency communication systems including access control systems, CCTV systems, weapons detection technology, visitor and vendor management systems, panic alarm systems, and mass notification platforms.
• Provides oversight for Environment of Care rounds, environmental risk assessments, hazard surveillance activities, safety inspections, Interim Life Safety Measures (ILSM) activities, fire drill coordination, fire safety compliance initiatives, and construction-related safety activities throughout hospital and offsite facilities.
• Supports organizational compliance with Joint Commission, CMS, OSHA, NFPA, and New Jersey Department of Health standards related to healthcare safety and life safety programs.
• Develops, reviews, updates, and maintains organizational policies, procedures, operational guidelines, risk assessments, and regulatory documentation related to Emergency Preparedness, Healthcare Security, Workplace Violence Prevention, Environment of Care, and organizational safety programs.
• Maintains collaborative working relationships with local, county, state, and regional emergency response agencies including law enforcement, EMS agencies, fire departments, Office of Emergency Management (OEM), healthcare coalitions, regulatory agencies, and the Hunterdon County Prosecutor’s Office.
• Operational Reporting, Data Management, and Performance Improvement Oversees operational reporting, incident trending, workplace violence reporting, Environment of Care reporting, emergency preparedness documentation, security metrics, and related performance improvement initiatives.
• Utilizes organizational software platforms, reporting systems, environmental rounding applications, emergency management systems, and operational technologies to support data analysis, operational decision-making, and regulatory compliance activities.
• Provides leadership, mentoring, operational guidance, and performance oversight for departmental personnel supporting a culture of professionalism, accountability, preparedness, customer service, and continuous improvement.
• Participates in organizational committees, operational initiatives, strategic planning activities, and multidisciplinary projects supporting organizational safety, operational effectiveness, and healthcare resilience.

Qualifications

• Minimum Education: Required: Associate Degree in Emergency Management, Public Safety, Criminal Justice, Homeland Security, Healthcare Administration, Occupational Safety, Fire Science, Environmental Health and Safety, or related field. Preferred: Bachelor’s Degree in Emergency Management, Public Safety, Homeland Security, Healthcare Administration, Occupational Safety, Fire Science, Environmental Health and Safety, Criminal Justice, or related field.
• Required: Minimum Years of Experience (Amount, Type and Variation): Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in healthcare public safety, healthcare security, emergency management, emergency preparedness, Environment of Care, workplace violence prevention, regulatory compliance, Life Safety, or related operational healthcare environment, including prior leadership, supervisory, or management experience.
• Preferred: Previous leadership experience supporting healthcare security operations, Emergency Preparedness programs, Environment of Care activities, workplace violence prevention initiatives, regulatory readiness activities, Hospital Incident Command System (HICS) operations, emergency exercises and drills, healthcare safety programs, security technology systems, investigations, or multidisciplinary public safety operations within a hospital or healthcare setting.
• Required: License, Registry or Certification: Valid Driver’s License FEMA Incident Command System (ICS) certifications including ICS 100, 200, 700, and 800 within established departmental timeframe Completion of organizational and departmental training requirements related to workplace violence prevention, emergency management, healthcare security operations, emergency response, and regulatory compliance within established departmental timeframe
• Preferred: Certified Healthcare Emergency Professional (CHEP) Certified Emergency Manager (CEM) Certified Healthcare Safety Professional (CHSP) Certified Healthcare Facility Manager (CHFM) AVADE Instructor Certification International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS) Certification Certified Healthcare Protection Administrator (CHPA) National Incident Management System (NIMS) advanced coursework OSHA, Emergency Management, Fire Safety, Workplace Violence Prevention, Healthcare Security, or Public Safety related certifications
• Required: Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities: Strong knowledge of healthcare emergency preparedness, healthcare security operations, workplace violence prevention, Environment of Care, life safety, and healthcare public safety principles Knowledge of Joint Commission, CMS, OSHA, NFPA, and New Jersey Department of Health standards related to healthcare security, emergency preparedness, workplace violence prevention, and safety programs Strong leadership, operational management, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills Ability to lead multidisciplinary public safety operations and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced healthcare environment Ability to maintain professionalism and composure during emergencies, incidents, workplace violence events, and stressful operational situations Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization Ability to effectively coordinate with executive leadership, clinical departments, Facilities Management, Human Resources, Security, Information Technology, and external emergency response agencies Experience managing healthcare security operations, workplace violence prevention initiatives, investigations, emergency preparedness activities, and regulatory compliance programs Strong knowledge of Hospital Incident Command System (HICS), Emergency Operations Center operations, and healthcare emergency response procedures Experience utilizing Microsoft Office Suite, web-based applications, access control systems, CCTV systems, visitor management platforms, weapons detection systems, mass notification systems, environmental rounding systems, and other operational technologies Ability to manage security operations, emergency response activities, staffing operations, investigations, and regulatory initiatives simultaneously Strong documentation, reporting, data management, and performance improvement skills Ability to conduct environmental risk assessments, workplace violence risk assessments, safety rounds, inspections, and compliance monitoring activities Ability to maintain compliance with regulatory standards and ensure regulatory readiness
