Position Summary The Director of Technology and Learning provides visionary leadership, strategic direction, and operational management for all aspects of the district's technology ecosystem. This role ensures that technology systems, digital tools, and data practices advance the district's mission, enhance teaching and learning, improve operational efficiency, and safeguard organizational data. The Director serves as a key member of the leadership team, aligning technology initiatives with instructional priorities, business operations, and long-term strategic goals. Core Responsibilities Leadership and VisionDevelop and articulate a clear vision for the use of technology to support teaching, learning, and district operationsCollaborate with district leadership to align technology initiatives with strategic goalsLead organizational change management related to digital transformationResearch, evaluate, and recommend emerging technologiesPromote a culture of innovation, continuous improvement, and data-informed decision-makingCommunicate the impact and value of technology to stakeholders Strategic PlanningDevelop, implement, and monitor a comprehensive district technology planAlign technology investments with instructional and operational prioritiesEstablish metrics and key performance indicators (KPIs) to evaluate effectivenessLead planning for:Infrastructure modernizationSystem interoperabilityDigital learning environmentsOversee disaster recovery, business continuity, and risk management planningEnsure alignment across departments (instruction, finance, transportation, facilities, etc.) Instructional Leadership & Professional LearningPartner with curriculum and instructional leaders to integrate technology into teaching and learningSupport innovative instructional practices and personalized learningDesign and oversee ongoing, job-embedded professional development for staffPromote digital literacy and effective instructional technology useEnsure technology supports diverse learner needs and accessibility Technology Operations & InfrastructureOversee all IT systems, including:Network infrastructureDevices and lifecycle managementEnterprise systems and applicationsSystem Ownership and Implementation of Vector in partnership with the Assistant Superintendent and the Director of CurriculumOversees setup, integrations (SIS, HR systems, SSO)Manages user provisioning (staff accounts, roles, permissions)Ensures the platform aligns with district policies and workflowsEnsure high system reliability, performance, and user supportImplement continuous improvement practices for IT servicesLead integration of instructional and operational systemsMonitor and report on system performance and usage metrics Data Management, Privacy, and SecurityEstablish and maintain systems for data collection, analysis, and reportingEnsure compliance with all applicable data privacy laws and regulationsImplement cybersecurity frameworks and best practices (e.g., NIST, CIS)Lead incident response and risk mitigation strategiesPromote responsible data use and data literacy across the organization Communication SystemsOversee and improve digital communication platforms and systemsEnsure communication tools are effective, secure, and compliantSupport stakeholder engagement through technologyStay current on emerging communication technologies Team Leadership and Capacity BuildingBuild, lead, and evaluate a high-performing technology teamFoster a collaborative, transparent, and service-oriented cultureDevelop staff capacity through coaching and professional growthEstablish clear goals, performance metrics, and accountability structuresPromote cross-functional collaboration across departments Business and Financial ManagementDevelop and manage the technology budget (annual and long-range)Ensure cost-effective purchasing and lifecycle planning (TCO/VOI)Oversee procurement processes, including RFPs and vendor selectionManage vendor relationships and contractsIdentify and secure funding sources (grants, E-Rate, etc.) Ethics, Policy, and ComplianceEnsure adherence to all legal, ethical, and regulatory requirementsDevelop and implement policies related to:Acceptable useData privacyCybersecurityPromote equitable access to technology resourcesAdvocate for accessibility, inclusion, and digital equityModel ethical and responsible technology use Qualifications Education Master's degree in Educational Technology, Information Systems, Leadership, or related field (required) Experience 5-10 years of leadership experience in educational technology or IT managementExperience in K-12 education strongly preferredDemonstrated success in strategic planning and system implementation Knowledge & Skills Deep understanding of:Instructional technology integrationIT infrastructure and systems managementData systems, analytics, and interoperabilityCybersecurity and data privacy practicesStrong leadership, communication, and change management skillsAbility to translate complex technical concepts into actionable strategies Core Competencies Strategic ThinkingInstructional AlignmentSystems LeadershipData-Driven Decision MakingCommunication & Stakeholder EngagementOperational ExcellenceEquity & Access Leadership Reporting Structure Reports to: Superintendent or Assistant SuperintendentSupervises: Technology staff, data systems personnel, and related roles Work Year Full-time, 12-month position
