About The Opportunity

A leading, private equity-backed, physician-led healthcare organization is seeking a Director of Operations to oversee a high-performing portfolio of multi-site physician practices across Central New Jersey. This highly visible leadership role is responsible for driving operational excellence, financial performance, physician partnership, and an exceptional patient experience across a regional network of outpatient practices. The position oversees regional care center operations and partners closely with physician and executive leadership to support growth and operational success.

The organization is one of the largest independent physician groups in its space, supporting nearly 500 providers across multiple states, including New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Indiana, and Northern Kentucky.

The Opportunity

This Director will oversee a region generating approximately $40–50 million in annual revenue, supporting:

  • Approximately 43 physicians and advanced practice providers
  • 7 physician groups operating across roughly 15–25 practice locations
  • 6 Practice Managers/Senior Practice Managers as direct reports

A diverse portfolio of outpatient physician practices with opportunities to support specialty services as the organization continues to grow. This role partners closely with physician leadership to improve operational performance, enhance patient satisfaction, develop frontline leaders, and ensure practices are positioned for continued growth.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership for a portfolio of multi-site physician practices.
  • Lead, coach, and develop Practice Managers while fostering accountability and operational excellence.
  • Partner with physicians and executive leadership to improve financial performance, productivity, and patient access.
  • Analyze operational and financial metrics to identify trends and implement performance improvement initiatives.
  • Develop and execute action plans to enhance patient satisfaction and overall practice performance.
  • Oversee annual budgeting, expense management, staffing plans, and capital improvement recommendations.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable healthcare regulatory requirements.
  • Support the onboarding and integration of newly acquired physician practices.
  • Collaborate with Finance, Human Resources, Marketing, IT, and other shared services to optimize operations.
  • Build strong relationships with physicians while serving as a trusted operational business partner.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree (MBA, MHA, or similar) preferred.
  • Five or more years of progressive healthcare operations leadership experience.
  • Demonstrated success managing multi-site physician practices, ambulatory care centers, or outpatient healthcare operations.
  • Experience leading managers and developing high-performing operational teams.
  • Strong financial acumen with experience managing budgets, P&L performance, and operational KPIs.
  • Proven ability to build collaborative relationships with physicians and executive leadership.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and change management skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and healthcare performance reporting tools.
