About the role

The Director of Nursing (DON) will provide strategic and operational leadership for multiple inpatient nursing units, including Medical-Surgical, Telemetry, and Oncology, ensuring exceptional patient care, clinical quality, regulatory compliance, and alignment with organizational goals.

Responsibilities

  • Provide oversight for a minimum of four inpatient units ranging from 17–32 beds each.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement among nursing leaders and frontline teams.
  • Mentor emerging leaders and strengthen workforce engagement across the service line.
  • Champion initiatives that elevate the patient's experience, improve quality and safety outcomes, and drive consistent clinical performance through data-driven decision-making, evidence-based practice, and measurable operational improvements.
  • Oversee departmental operations, staffing, budgeting, productivity, and resource management, balancing multiple priorities while ensuring efficient, high-quality care delivery and responsible financial stewardship.
  • Partner closely with physicians, executive leadership, and interdisciplinary teams to strengthen communication, improve care coordination, and implement innovative solutions that enhance patient outcomes and operational performance.
  • Drive change across the inpatient division by identifying opportunities to improve workflows, standardize best practices, and create sustainable improvements in patient satisfaction, clinical quality, and organizational performance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is required.
  • A Master’s degree is required.
  • An active Florida RN license is required.
  • An active BLS, NRP, and ACLS certifications are required.
  • A minimum of three years of practice experience is required.
  • A minimum of three years of supervisory experience is required.

  • Proven track record of leading nursing teams and improving patient outcomes.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with physicians, executives, and interdisciplinary teams.
  • Experience in managing budgets, staffing, and workflow optimization.
  • Ability to develop and implement strategies for continuous improvement and innovation.
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Strong leadership qualities and ability to mentor and develop nursing staff.
