Director of Development
Summary
Habitat for Humanity of Greenville County is seeking a strategic and relationship-driven Director of Development to lead our fundraising efforts with a clear focus on two priorities: cultivating new donor and partner relationships and deepening our stewardship of existing supporters to drive retention and sustained growth.
Essential Skills
- Growing New Support
- Identify, research, and cultivate new prospects across corporate, faith community, foundation, civic, and individual giving channels
- Build a strong pipeline of new partners and major donors, moving prospects intentionally from first engagement to committed giving
- Expand corporate in-kind gift partnerships to support our construction efforts
- Represent Habitat Greenville publicly, speaking to community groups and organizations to grow visibility and new giving relationships
- Respond appropriately and ensure a high degree of responsiveness to all donors without regard to their giving level
- Strengthening Existing Relationships
- Maintain a donor-centric approach that prioritizes retention and year-over-year growth in giving
- Ensure timely, meaningful recognition and follow-up for all partners and donors
- Lead partnership and major donor programs designed to deepen commitment and maximize long-term giving
- Keep donor data accurate and up to date to support personalized, consistent stewardship
- Incorporate planned giving into the organization's overall fundraising strategy
- Strategy & Leadership
- Collaborate with the CEO, leadership team, staff, and Board to build annual and long-term development plans aligned with our strategic goals
- Lead, train, and support development staff, board members, and volunteers in fundraising efforts
- Manage a team of development staff, inclusive of the events and grants functions
- Recommend policies and practices that support sustainable organizational growth
- Provide accurate development reporting and contribute financial data to the annual budget process
- Lead the planning, execution, and management of development-related events, including special and promotional events
- Partner closely with staff across all departments to align fundraising efforts with organizational priorities and strategic initiatives
- Set and maintain a culture of personal professional development and keep organization informed as to trends and new developments

Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree, or 3–5 years of related experience/training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, nonprofit fundraising experience, with major gifts experience preferred
- Demonstrated success achieving major gift and fundraising revenue goals through both new donor acquisition and existing donor retention
- Strong written, oral, and presentation communication skills
- Experience using and maintaining donor database software
- Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and adapt within a growing organization
- A collaborative, team-oriented approach and a proactive, solutions-focused mindset
- Proven ability to be adaptable and flexible in leadership and execution of role
- Demonstrated ability to identify opportunities, solve problems proactively, and lead by example
Preferred Qualifications
- Fundraising or philanthropy certification
What You Bring
