About the role

The Director of Development (Administrator II) reports to the Associate Vice President of Development, working in concert with the Interim Director of Athletics, President, and the Athletics Fiscal Feasibility Team. The role establishes fundraising strategies and directs and conducts fundraising activities to secure philanthropic support for the Intercollegiate Athletics Program in alignment with Sonoma State University priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Identify, qualify, cultivate and solicit potential donors for the Athletics Program
  • Organize and provide effective communication with donors and potential donors
  • Steward alumni and other individual prospects, sponsors and major donors
  • Cook up gift processing
  • Recruit, train and motivate campaign volunteers for the university
  • Engage alumni and community networks to assess the feasibility of robust philanthropic activity
  • Work closely with constituents from all areas of the university and local community to identify opportunities to work toward fundraising objectives
  • Supervise staff and student personnel as assigned

Qualifications

  • A minimum of four years of experience in successful relationship building with prospects, volunteers, and board members, or demonstrated aptitude to be successful in face-to-face fundraising
  • Four years of progressively responsible and applicable management and/or supervisory experience
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Proven track record of successfully working with individual donors, soliciting and securing gifts
  • Experience in athletic fundraising within a university environment and a strong understanding of university culture and corporate partnerships highly preferred
  • Intermediate proficiency with computers, Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel), and Google Suite required; Raisers Edge experience highly preferred

Pay

Starting salary placement depends on qualifications and experience and is anticipated to be in the range of $8,334 - $8,667 a month. This position is a member of the Management Personnel Plan and serves at the pleasure of the President.
