About the Role
The Director of Community Life and Engagement provides leadership, oversight, and management for the daily operations of Residential Living Programming, Residential Living Resident Services, and Administration departments. This role ensures high-quality care in compliance with regulatory requirements, budgetary guidelines, and organizational policies while maintaining confidentiality. The position serves as a resource to the Board of Directors, leadership team, residents, all departments, and external contacts.
Responsibilities
- Complete assigned strategic initiatives thoroughly and on time.
- Actively participate in strategic and planning discussions.
- Create timely reports on all department activities.
- Develop monthly, quarterly, and annual action plans.
- Implement succession plans, expand staff competencies, and support professional and personal growth.
- Provide direct supervision of staff and conduct departmental meetings.
- Participate in and complete all required ongoing training, including monthly online and in-person sessions, annual skills competencies, and role-specific certifications.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED (required).
- Bachelor’s degree in business, Healthcare Administration, Social Work, Human Services, Gerontology, or related field, or commensurate industry experience including management (required).
- Master’s degree in business or healthcare administration (preferred).
- 4-5 years of experience in health, human services, or community services, including programs with senior adults (required).
- 5+ years of experience in a retirement/long-term care facility (preferred).
- Completion of the Highlands Hearthstone Ambassador training within 30 days of employment (required).

Schedule
This is a full-time position in a 24/7 healthcare facility. The role includes weekend and holiday manager-on-duty coverage. Work during inclement weather is required.
Travel
Some travel is expected for this position.
Physical Requirements
- Regularly required to talk and hear.
- Visual acuity adequate for reading printed materials and computer screens.
- Frequently required to stand, walk, use hands to handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms.
- Ability to occasionally lift office products and supplies up to 20 pounds.
Work Environment
- General office working conditions.
- May be exposed to bloodborne pathogens, communicable diseases, moving mechanical parts, toxic/caustic chemicals, or detergents.
- May occasionally interact with residents exhibiting aggressive behavior.
Security Clearances
- Medical screening.
- Criminal history clearance.
- FBI fingerprint clearance (if not lived in PA for the last 2 years).
- Immigration and naturalization (I-9) clearance.
- Valid Pennsylvania Driver’s License and acceptable MVR (if operating a company vehicle).
