About the role
The Director, Business Solutions serves as the strategic business technology partner for Divisional IT, responsible for translating business strategy, operating model needs, and process opportunities into technology solutions. This leader acts as the partner to operating unit stakeholders and divisional delivery teams to identify solutions and ensure technology investments deliver measurable business value.
Owns business solution definition, process design, capability adoption, AI-first business analysis, and end-to-end solution shaping across the supported operating units.
Works closely with the Division CIO and Solutions Delivery leadership to ensure business priorities are clearly defined, evaluated, and translated into executable technology roadmaps.
Responsibilities
Business Partnership & Executive/Stakeholder Engagement:
- Serve as the primary technology partner to operating unit executives and business leaders.
- Develop a deep understanding of business strategies, operational goals, competitive differentiators, and market needs.
- Identify opportunities to improve business performance through process redesign, automation, analytics, data, AI, and technology enablement.
- Help business leaders prioritize technology investments based on value, risk, and strategic alignment.
- Represent divisional business priorities across enterprise technology initiatives and governance forums.
Business Analysis & Solution Design:
- Lead AI-first business analysis and process design activities.
- Translate business objectives into clearly defined capabilities, requirements, and solution options.
- Facilitate workshops with business stakeholders, subject matter experts, architects, and delivery teams.
- Evaluate solutions against business workflows, customer experience, compliance requirements, and operational needs.
- Work with the business to define future-state business processes and operating models enabled by technology.
End-to-End Solution Ownership:
- Own solution intent from problem definition through adoption and realization of business value.
- Partner with architects and engineering teams to evaluate enterprise, divisional, and commercial solution options.
- Ensure proposed solutions balance business differentiation, scalability, cost, security, and maintainability.
- Guide modernization, legacy retirement, and process rationalization efforts.
Divisional IT Portfolio & Demand Management:
- Partner with Solutions Delivery leadership to establish intake, prioritization, and demand management practices.
- Define business cases and value hypotheses for proposed initiatives.
- Evaluate competing demands and recommend investment priorities.
- Ensure business requirements are sufficiently defined before entering delivery pipelines.
AI & Innovation Leadership:
- Identify opportunities to leverage Artificial Intelligence, automation, workflow modernization, and advanced analytics.
- Partner with enterprise AI and data teams to accelerate adoption of reusable capabilities.
- Guide operating units in identifying high-value AI use cases with measurable business outcomes.
- Promote innovation while balancing governance, compliance, and operational risk.
Leadership & Team Development:
- Lead and mentor a team of business-facing technology professionals.
- Establish consistent practices for business analysis, solution design, and stakeholder management.
- Foster a culture of ownership, accountability, continuous learning, and customer focus.
- Build a high-performing team capable of supporting multiple operating units.
Qualifications
10+ years of experience in business technology, product management, business architecture, process improvement, or technology consulting.
5+ years leading business-facing technology teams.
Deep understanding of commercial insurance operations, including underwriting, claims, policy administration, billing, distribution, or operations.
Experience working across business and technology organizations in complex matrix environments.
Strong background in process design, change management, and business transformation.
Experience with Guidewire, workflow automation, data platforms, AI solutions, or modern insurance ecosystems preferred.
Education Requirement
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, or a related discipline.
Equivalent experience and/or alternative qualifications will be considered.
Advanced degree (Masters or equivalent) preferred or equivalent experience.
Preferred Skills/Experience
Experience supporting large-scale transformation initiatives (digital, core system modernization, data, automation).
Familiarity with Agile, Product, or hybrid delivery models.
Experience with vendor management and third-party solution evaluation.
Knowledge of enterprise architecture concepts, data platforms, and cybersecurity considerations in insurance.
MBA or relevant certifications (e.g., PMP, SAFe, ITIL, Product Management).
