About the role

The Association for Individual Development (AID) is a non-profit organization dedicated to empowering individuals with various challenges to live dignified and purposeful lives. We are seeking a Direct Support Professional (DSP) who shares our commitment to making a positive impact in the community.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a team approach in working with clients, staff, and external agencies.
• Implement specific programs from the Individual Plan or Implementation Strategy, and document services according to program procedures.
• Follow all agency and program rules and regulations.
• Report concerns or issues to the supervisor promptly.
• Plan and prepare meals according to menus and recipes, adhering to dietary requirements.
• Attend to the self-care needs of clients, including toileting, changing clothes, bathing, grooming, and cleaning.
• Obtain and manage medication administration authorizations.
• Maintain a clean and safe environment by performing daily cleaning tasks and reporting safety concerns.
• Monitor and relay medical information during client appointments.
• Participate in meetings, shifts, and trainings as scheduled.
• Assist in the orientation and training of new staff members.
• Organize and facilitate community and in-house activities.
• Document client participation in meetings and other activities.
• Take direction and complete tasks with minimal supervision.
• Perform independent building coverage as needed, including safety and supervision of clients.
• Work flexible hours at various locations based on client and program needs.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED.
• CNA certification or Autism Certificate preferred.
• Experience working with developmentally disabled adults preferred.
• Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds, climb stairs, and perform daily housekeeping tasks.
• Pass S-TOFHLA literacy test.
• Complete required DSP and Medication Administration Training, including CPR, First Aid, Infection Control, OIG Rule 50, and CPI.
• Valid Illinois driver's license and access to a personal cell phone with secure messaging capabilities.
• At least 18 years of age.
