Direct Support Professional (CNA/DSP) - Geneva, Illinois

The Association for Individual Development (AID) is a non-profit organization dedicated to empowering individuals with various challenges to live dignified and purposeful lives. We are seeking a Direct Support Professional (DSP) in Geneva, IL who shares our commitment to making a positive impact in the community.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a team approach in working with clients, staff, and external agencies.
• Implement specific programs from the Individual Plan or Implementation Strategy, and document services provided according to program procedures.
• Familiarize and adhere to all agency and program rules and regulations.
• Report concerns or issues to the supervisor promptly.
• Plan and prepare meals following menus and recipes, ensuring compliance with dietary requirements.
• Attend to the self-care needs of clients, including toileting, changing clothes, bathing, grooming, shaving, cleaning glasses and adaptive equipment, etc.
• Obtain and manage medication administration authorizations at multiple locations.
• Maintain medication administration authorization through annual training, adherence to policies, and minimizing medication errors.
• Ensure safe conditions within and outside the home, including maintenance and housekeeping tasks.
• Perform daily cleaning tasks, including surface, deep, and sanitizing cleaning, as assigned.
• Be alert to and handle emergency situations appropriately according to program and agency policies.
• Provide transportation for clients using personal or agency vehicles for work, shopping, appointments, social events, etc.
• Monitor and relay medical information during client appointments.
• Participate in meetings, shifts, and trainings as scheduled.
• Assist in the orientation and training of new staff.
• Conduct monthly client input meetings, facilitate training activities, and participate in other client-related meetings as assigned.
• Complete required training as assigned on or before the due date to meet licensing and program requirements.
• Ensure excellent attendance and punctuality as defined by the program guidelines.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED.
• CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant) or Autism Certificate preferred.
• Experience working with developmentally disabled adults preferred.
• Physical requirements include climbing stairs daily, pushing/pulling, reaching, stooping/bending, and using step stools daily.
• Ability to perform daily housekeeping tasks and assist clients in independent living skills.
• Physically assist clients in situations such as getting in/out of van, bathtub, shower, or bed.
• Knowledge of client's medical conditions and ability to monitor and relay information to/from medical appointments.
• Pass S-TOFHLA literacy test.
• Complete required DSP and Medication Administration Training, including CPR, First Aid, Infection Control, OIG Rule 50, and CPI.
• Complete additional on-the-job certification for enteral nutrition tasks.
• Must have and maintain a valid Illinois driver's license.
• Use of a personal automobile and minimum amount of automobile liability insurance as defined in the Association's personnel policy is required.
• Must transport clients in personal automobile when necessary.
• Must have access to a personal cell phone with ability to utilize downloaded applications for secure messaging.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
