Direct Support Professional (CNA/DSP) - Elgin, IL

About the role

The Association for Individual Development (AID) is seeking a Direct Support Professional (DSP) to join our team. AID empowers individuals with diverse needs to lead dignified and purposeful lives within the community.

Responsibilities

• Implement Individualized Strategies from the Individual Plan or Implementation Strategy, and document services provided.
• Ensure client rights, dignity, and privacy, while maintaining a clean and safe environment.
• Work with clients experiencing maladaptive behaviors, including verbal aggression, physical aggression, self-injurious behavior, property destruction, and elopement.
• Provide intensive care for clients requiring toileting, bathing, special diets, and enhanced funding.
• Assist clients with daily living activities, including toileting, changing clothes, bathing, grooming, shaving, cleaning glasses, and using adaptive equipment.
• Obtain and administer medications as authorized, and ensure safe conditions inside and outside the home.
• Maintain a clean and sanitary environment, both inside and out, including surface, deep, and sanitizing cleaning tasks.
• Monitor and report emergency situations, and take appropriate action according to program and agency policies.
• Transport clients for work, shopping, appointments, and social events.
• Attend to clients’ medical needs and communicate with healthcare providers.
• Participate in meetings, trainings, and client meetings as assigned.
• Assist in the orientation and training of new staff members.
• Conduct monthly client input meetings and facilitate training activities.
• Complete required training and documentation as needed.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED.
• CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant) or Autism Certificate preferred.
• Experience working with developmentally disabled adults preferred.
• Physical requirements include climbing stairs daily, lifting up to 50 pounds, and significant walking and standing.
• Must pass S-TOFHLA literacy test.
• Must complete required DSP and Medication Administration Training, including CPR, First Aid, Infection Control, OIG Rule 50, and CPI.
• Must maintain medication administration authorization by following all policies and procedures.
• Must complete additional on-the-job certification for enteral nutrition tasks.
• Must maintain certification by performing enteral nutrition tasks a minimum of two times per month.
• Evening, weekend, overnight, and holiday hours are required.
• A valid Illinois driver’s license is required.
• Access to a personal cell phone with secure messaging capabilities is necessary.
• Must meet and maintain IDOT Approved Driver Status.
• Must be at least 18 years old.
