Direct Support Professional (CNA/DSP) - Elgin, Illinois

About the role

The Association for Individual Development (AID) is a non-profit organization dedicated to empowering individuals with various challenges to live dignified and purposeful lives. We are seeking a Direct Support Professional who shares our commitment to making a positive impact in the community.

Responsibilities

• Maintain a team approach in working with clients, staff, and outside agencies.
• Implement specific assigned programs from the Individual Plan or Implementation Strategy, and document services provided according to program procedures.
• Familiarize and adhere to all agency and program rules and regulations.
• Report concerns or issues to the supervisor promptly.
• Plan and prepare meals following menus and recipes, ensuring compliance with client dietary requirements.
• Attend to the self-care needs of clients, including toileting, changing clothes, bathing, grooming, shaving, cleaning glasses, and using adaptive equipment.
• Obtain and maintain medication administration authorization at multiple locations.
• Maintain a clean and safe environment by performing daily surface, deep, and sanitizing cleaning tasks.
• Monitor and report environmental safety concerns, enter requests for non-urgent repairs, ensure bedrooms meet regulatory standards, conduct safety drills, and assist clients in home maintenance.
• Ensure clients’ safety during emergency situations and take appropriate actions based on program and agency policies.
• Provide transportation for clients, including personal or agency vehicles, for work, shopping, appointments, social events, etc.
• Monitor and relay medical information during client appointments.
• Attend all meetings, shifts, and trainings as scheduled.
• Assist in the orientation and training of new staff.
• Participate in community and in-house activities, conduct client input meetings, and facilitate training activities.
• Complete required training and documentation as assigned.
• Operate adaptive equipment as needed, including hoyer lift, shower chairs, walkers, wheelchairs, and enteral nutrition tasks.
• Transport clients in personal or agency vehicles, ensuring safety and compliance with all regulations.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED.
• CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant) or Autism Certificate preferred.
• Experience working with developmentally disabled adults preferred.
• Physical requirements: climb stairs daily, push, pull, reach, stoop/bend over, use step stool, perform daily housekeeping tasks, assist clients in independent living skills, physically assist clients in situations, implement behavior support strategies, respond to emergency behavioral issues, walk and stand daily, lift up to 50 pounds with assistance.
• Additional requirements: pass S-TOFHLA literacy test, complete DSP and Medication Administration Training, maintain medication administration authorization, complete additional on-the-job certification for enteral nutrition tasks, maintain certification, and have a valid Illinois driver's license with appropriate insurance.

Variety of shift options including Sunday 8am-8pm, Monday-Thursday 3pm-10pm or Tues.-Fri. 2p-10p, Saturday 8am-4p or Tuesday-Friday 3p-10p & Saturday 10am-10pm.
