About the role

The Association for Individual Development (AID) seeks a Direct Support Professional (DSP) who embodies our mission to empower individuals with diverse needs to lead dignified and purposeful lives. We offer flexible scheduling options, including Sunday, Monday, Saturday 1-9 pm, Tuesday and Wednesday 6am-2pm; or Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday 2-10pm or Tuesday 2-10 pm - Saturday 8-4.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a team approach in working with clients, staff, and external agencies.
  • Implement specific programs from the Individual Plan or Implementation Strategy, and document services according to program procedures.
  • Familiarize and adhere to all agency and program rules and regulations.
  • Report concerns or issues to the supervisor promptly.
  • Plan and prepare meals following menus and recipes, ensuring compliance with dietary requirements.
  • Attend to the self-care needs of clients, including toileting, bathing, grooming, and medication administration.
  • Ensure safe environments by reporting and addressing safety concerns, conducting safety drills, and assisting clients in home maintenance.
  • Maintain a clean, sanitary environment by performing daily cleaning tasks and using appropriate cleaning supplies.
  • Respond appropriately to emergency situations and follow program and agency policies.
  • Provide transportation for clients as needed.
  • Monitor and relay medical information during appointments.
  • Participate in meetings, trainings, and client meetings as scheduled.
  • Assist in the orientation and training of new staff.
  • Conduct monthly client input meetings and facilitate training activities.
  • Complete required training and documentation as assigned.
  • Comply with Home and Community Based Settings Rules and apply principles in client interactions.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant) or Autism Certificate preferred.
  • Experience working with developmentally disabled adults preferred.
  • Physical requirements include climbing stairs daily, lifting up to 50 pounds, and significant walking and standing.
  • Must pass S-TOFHLA literacy test.
  • Must complete required DSP and Medication Administration Training, including CPR, First Aid, Infection Control, OIG Rule 50, and CPI.
  • Must maintain medication administration authorization by following all policies and procedures.
  • Must complete additional on-the-job certification for enteral nutrition tasks.
  • Must maintain certification by following all policies and procedures as well as performing enteral nutrition tasks a minimum of twice a month.
  • Evening, weekend, overnight, and holiday hours required.
  • Must have a valid Illinois driver's license and meet IDOT approved driver status.
  • Must have access to a personal cell phone with secure messaging capabilities.
