About the role
A conservation nonprofit dedicated to protecting the living landscapes of the California desert is hiring a Digital Marketing and Social Media Specialist.
Responsibilities
- Managing day-to-day social media presence across Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, and emerging channels
- Developing and maintaining a social media content calendar aligned with organizational priorities, campaigns, and events
- Scheduling and publishing content using social media management tools
- Creating engaging content including graphics, short-form videos, captions, stories, reels, and other digital assets
- Capturing photo and video content from events, programs, field work, and community engagement efforts
- Monitoring comments, messages, tags, and audience interactions and coordinating responses
- Collaborating with program staff and the communications team to identify stories that connect conservation outcomes with audience interests
- Supporting digital fundraising, advocacy, membership, volunteer, event, and awareness campaigns
- Assisting with multichannel marketing content including email, SMS, website, and other digital projects
- Coordinating campaign assets and timelines across departments
- Tracking and reporting key digital marketing metrics including reach, engagement, follower growth, click-through rates, and conversions
- Preparing monthly reports highlighting successes, trends, opportunities, and recommendations
- Maintaining brand consistency and assisting with basic graphic design and layout
Qualifications
- 1-3 years of experience in marketing, communications, digital media, social media management, or a related field
- Demonstrated knowledge of major social media platforms and how different platforms, audiences, and content styles work
- Strong writing skills with the ability to adapt tone and messaging for different audiences
- Experience creating graphics, short-form videos, reels, stories, photos, or other digital assets
- Comfortable using tools such as Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, Meta Business Suite, Later, Hootsuite, Sprout Social, Buffer, or similar platforms
- Photography and basic video editing skills
- Comfortable interpreting marketing data and making recommendations
- Organized and detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
- Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, journalism, digital media, or a related field preferred
- Valid California Class C Driver's License required
Additional Details
- The position follows a 9/80 work schedule, allowing employees to work 80 hours over a two-week period with an extended weekend every other week.
- Hybrid work is available.
- Some travel within the Mojave and Colorado Desert regions is required for events, field visits, and content gathering, with occasional evening, weekend, and overnight travel.
