Diagnostic Imaging Technician II

About the role

Under intermittent direction from Clinical Engineering Department management, the incumbent performs planning, integration, and maintenance on Diagnostic Imaging Equipment. This includes installation, repair, maintenance, and calibration of specialized imaging equipment. Travel across multiple sites may be required. The role involves preventative maintenance, troubleshooting sophisticated technology, and providing training to colleagues, vendors, and other personnel. The position requires on-call duties, including occasional weekend and off-hours work, as well as travel to support YNHHS entities.

Responsibilities

• Performs inspection and repairs on imaging equipment following OEM-approved procedures using specialized test equipment. Conducts testing and preventative maintenance according to OEM, Joint Commission, OSHA, accrediting bodies, and departmental standards to ensure safe and proper equipment function. Meets quantifiable goals for scheduled maintenance work orders annually.
• Works from drawings, technical manuals, and specifications to troubleshoot and repair Diagnostic Imaging Equipment. Efficiency is measured through turnaround time, with all scheduled maintenance completed in the month it is due.
• Troubleshoots equipment logically to identify and correct malfunctions in a timely manner. Communicates with relevant resources for unscheduled maintenance, including identifying, ordering, and installing parts to return devices to service.
• Serves as a subject matter expert on diagnostic imaging technologies for Clinical Engineering, Radiology, and Heart and Vascular departments. Ensures timely response to service requests, with performance measured and scored.
• Maintains accurate inventory of equipment, modules/probes, parts, test equipment, and tools. Completes incoming inspections and documents equipment in the inventory system within 48 hours of receipt.
• Collaborates with administrators, IT personnel, vendors, and others to ensure proper information flow through the electronic health record.
• Continuously enhances knowledge of diagnostic imaging technologies and contributes to training less experienced personnel.
• Personal goals and team-building success factors are part of performance assessments at management’s discretion.
• Serves as a resource and provides assistance to other staff, including training on specialty equipment.
• Demonstrates exceptional customer service while interacting with physicians, patients, residents, visitors, staff, and the broader healthcare community.
• Acts as a reference source for clinical engineering and clinical staff regarding procedures for operating and maintaining imaging devices.
• Provides technical support (via telephone or on-site) to clinicians and engineers.

Requirements

• Diagnostic imaging modality training from an OEM, third party, or military training required.
• Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in a technical field (mechanical, electrical, biomedical) preferred, or other proven comparable education level.
• Five (5) years of related technical experience with demonstrated ability to repair complex electronic systems, including three (3) years working directly on Diagnostic Imaging equipment. Experience requirements adjust based on education level:
  • Associate’s degree: Four (4) years of related technical experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree: Three (3) years of related technical experience.
• Proficiency in using electronic schematics, blueprints, service manuals, and phone-based direction.
• Knowledge and daily use of safety policies, procedures, personal protective equipment, safety data sheets, and universal precautions.
• Ability to use and interpret information from highly specialized test equipment.
• Ability to lead the work of others, prioritize tasks, and handle high-pressure situations.
• Ability to work with OEM and third-party vendors to maintain and repair diagnostic imaging devices while minimizing radiation exposure for patients and operators.

Physical Demand

• Valid Driver’s License required.
• Ability to travel to multiple locations.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including on-call and overtime.
