Detentions Corporal
About the role
The Lake County Sheriff's Office seeks a Detention Corporal with a background in corrections and law enforcement. This position involves administrative supervision of the jail, overseeing Detention Deputies, and performing various duties related to inmate care and security.
Responsibilities
- Limit access to the jail and conduct interior searches at regular intervals
- Maintain the security of the jail by ensuring inmates are adequately confined
- Book in and bond out prisoners as necessary
- Operate and maintain various jail-related equipment
- Write and file incident case reports and arrest reports
- Monitor and schedule transports and court appointments
- Supervise and manage Detention Deputies, maintaining training records and ensuring efficient operations
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Requirements
- Three (3) years detentions/corrections experience and two (2) years Field Training Officer or P.O.S.T. skills instructor
- Proven leadership skills
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to complete and pass a written exam, oral board, physical ability exam, and psychological evaluation
- Legal possession of a firearm in the State of Colorado
- Training in and employment of Defensive Tactics and Arrest Control methods
- Ability to see, hear, and speak with or without correction
- Enough mobility and dexterity to perform essential functions
- Proficiency in English and Spanish preferred

Pay
The starting salary range is $68,622 - $77,234 annually, with steps based on years of experience according to the 2026 Pay Scale.
