About the role
The Lake County Sheriff's Office is seeking a P.O.S.T certified Law Enforcement Officer with a strong commitment to public service. The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication skills and a dedication to the core values of Integrity, Service, and Excellence.
Responsibilities
- Observe the movement and activities of all persons entering the jail
- Limited access to the jail and other restricted areas
- Conduct interior searches of the jail and jail/inmate checks at regular intervals daily
- Maintain the security of the jail by ensuring all inmates are adequately confined
- Monitor the safety of inmates, detainees, visitors, and employees
- Book in and bond out prisoners as necessary
- Update inmate records on a predetermined basis
- Log all information regarding inmates, on a constant basis, to accurately reflect their activity
- Operate various equipment related to the jail
- Testify in court or hearings as needed
- Maintain efficient recording and filing systems for the jail
- Manage and supervise Detentions Deputies
- Write and file incident case reports, arrest reports, and complete incident reports
- Schedule transports, outside agency court appointments, or medical needs
- Assist with security issues as needed
- Escort inmates to court-ordered locations
- Collect and preserve contraband from persons who enter the Sheriff’s Office building
- Take into custody individuals and arrange transportation to county jails
- Write and file incident case reports, arrest reports for each case handled during the shift
- Supervise and manage Detentions Deputies, maintain appropriate training records, and ensure efficient and safe operations
- Perform other related duties as assigned or required
Requirements
- Five (5) years detentions/corrections experience and two (2) years supervisor experience in detentions/corrections
- High School Diploma, GED
- Legally possess a firearm in the State of Colorado
- Capable of training in and employing Defensive Tactics and Arrest Control methods, which includes gross and fine motor skills, kicks, strikes, pressure points, joint locks, and handcuffing
- Successfully complete and pass a written exam, oral board, physical ability exam, and psychological evaluation
- Able to see with or without corrective lenses, well enough to read letters and reports
- Able to hear with or without hearing aids, and to speak well enough to converse on phone and radio
- Able to lift to 40 pounds
- Able to climb, stoop, kneel, bend, crouch, twist, reach, and perform other office duties
- Proficiency in English and Spanish preferred

- Ability to work indoors in an office environment with prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working at a computer

- Ability to work outdoors in inclement, hot, or cold weather as required

Pay
Compensation range: $68,622 - $77,234 annually based on years of experience and qualifications. Annual salary steps are provided in the Pay Scale section.
Schedule
Overtime opportunities paid at time and a half, after 80 in hours in a 14-day work period
