About the role
The Lake County Sheriff's Office is seeking a Detention Deputy to join our team. This position is full-time, non-exempt, and based on years of experience as a Detentions/Corrections officer.
Responsibilities
- Maintain safety and security by monitoring and observing all individuals entering the jail.
- Control and restrict access to the jail and other secured areas.
- Conduct routine interior inspections and inmate checks.
- Ensure jail security by verifying proper confinement and monitoring inmates, staff, detainees, and visitors.
- Process inmate bookings and releases, including handling of bond documentation.
- Manage inmate cash accounts and update inmate records.
- Accurately log inmate activity and jail operations.
- Operate and maintain various equipment including radios, scanners, and computers.
- Provide courtroom testimony or hearing appearances as required.
- Maintain organized and updated jail records and filing systems.
- Perform cell and pod searches to ensure areas are free of contraband and weapons.
- Support road deputies, court security, and dispatch personnel with security matters.
- Escort inmates to court-ordered destinations using approved transport procedures.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Successfully complete a written examination, oral board interview, and psychological evaluation.
- Vision and hearing sufficient to perform duties, with or without corrective lenses and hearing aids.
- Physically capable of climbing, stooping, kneeling, bending, crouching, twisting, and reaching.
- Ability to perform basic administrative tasks, including writing, typing, and completing office-related duties.

- Must be physically capable of performing the essential functions of the position, including lifting, restraining, and responding to emergencies.
- Must adhere to all safety protocols and wear appropriate protective equipment.
- Must maintain an appropriate level of physical fitness to meet the physical demands of the position.

Pay
The salary range for this position is $58,300 - $67,585 annually, based on years of experience as a Detentions/Corrections officer.
Schedule
The schedule for this position is flexible and may involve rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime as required.
