About the role
The Detention Division of Gunnison County Sheriff's Office is responsible for the incarceration and well-being of pre-sentenced and sentenced inmates through care, custody, and control.
Responsibilities
- Provide care and custody for pre-sentenced and sentenced inmates.
- Ensure the safety and security of all detainees.
- Perform routine and complex public safety work as assigned.
- Communicate effectively with inmates, staff, and the public.
- Adhere to departmental policies and procedures.
Requirements
- Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school.
- Must be 21 years or older at the time of employment.
- Must be able to communicate in English, both written and orally.
- Must be of good moral character and of temperate and industrious habits.
- Must possess a valid Colorado driver’s license without record of suspension or revocation in any state.
- No felony convictions and/or serious misdemeanor, disqualifying criminal histories.
- Ability to meet Department's physical standards.
- Ability to obtain certification for CPR/First Aid.
- Must complete ICS 100 and ICS 700 within the first year of employment.
Special Requirements
- May have to cover shifts or be on call in emergency situations.

Pay
The annual salary range is from $66,682.96 to $75,920.30, depending on experience, plus full benefits. The County pays monthly on the last weekday of the month.
