Design/Construction Project Manager IV - San Jose CA

About the Role

This senior individual contributor position oversees all phases of the design and/or construction process for moderately complex projects, typically ranging from $50-100 million in cumulative budget responsibility. Responsibilities include defining project parameters, managing project teams (facility personnel, contractors, consultants), and ensuring Kaiser Permanente’s goals for client service are met throughout design, construction, and close-out. The role also involves guiding design stages for medical/regional facilities, negotiating fees, approving invoices and change orders, securing permits, and supervising on-site teams while communicating progress to leadership.

• Allocate resources, establish schedules, and assign tasks to ensure project management best practices.
• Lead project teams, coordinate internal/external resources, and deliver performance feedback to team members’ supervisors.
• Identify, monitor, and mitigate project risks and issues; develop mitigation strategies and escalate as needed.
• Ensure adherence to policies and procedures for project plans and team activities.
• Align and coordinate diverse stakeholders by building rapport, clarifying accountability, and fostering buy-in.
• Provide insights to stakeholders and sponsors, set deliverable priorities, and facilitate decisions for project delivery.
• Communicate complex issues to stakeholders while maintaining independent recommendations; deliver presentations and reports to senior audiences.
• Review vendor performance, ensure service level agreements are met, and assist with contract negotiations.
• Partner with Procurement/Legal to develop service agreements and review vendor invoices for accuracy.

Requirements

• Minimum four (4) years of experience in construction and/or design project management.
• Minimum one (1) year of experience in a leadership role (with or without direct reports).
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university and minimum five (5) years of project management experience or minimum eight (8) years of project management experience in a directly related field.

Preferred Qualifications

• Three (3) years of experience working with performance management.
• Three (3) years of experience working with pharmacy and benefits operations.

Location & Schedule

Primary location: San Jose, California (San Jose Hospital). Full-time role with a standard schedule of 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Work setting is onsite.

Travel required: Yes, up to 20% of the time.

Pay

Pay range: $139,600 – $180,620 per year. Actual base pay determined at offer based on labor market data, internal alignment, and candidate qualifications (experience, education, certifications, skills, and geographic location).
