About the role

General Atomics Systems Integration, LLC (GA-SI), an affiliate of General Atomics, is a provider of military and commercial engineering services. This is a deployable role supporting the MQ-9 unmanned aerial vehicle, requiring OCONUS travel and a flexible schedule with the ability to live at any location. Under general supervision, the Avionics Technician is responsible for technical and operational support in the installation, application, and maintenance of UAV electronic equipment, including ground control stations, ground data terminals, and ground support equipment in accordance with technical specifications, engineering instructions, and technical orders.

Responsibilities

  • Operate UAV, ground control stations, and ground support equipment and all subordinate systems at operation locations.
  • Analyze customer requirements and evaluate product implementation to meet specifications and end-user applications.
  • Assess customers' needs for data interface and recommend actions for coordinated product solutions.
  • Provide technical support on the installation, configuration, application, and repair of products and systems at operational locations.
  • Perform troubleshooting and repair of ground and airborne electronic equipment using product knowledge, sound judgment, and logical reasoning.
  • Repair or replace components based on test results, intermediate system knowledge, technical documents, engineering instructions, schematics, blueprints, or written/verbal instructions.
  • Install, configure, and test computer hardware, software, and networked systems; diagnose and correct malfunctions.
  • Perform inspections and preventative maintenance on ground and airborne systems.
  • Maintain required records and forms in accordance with company and customer specifications.
  • Validate and verify accuracy of technical documents and procedures; recommend changes based on system knowledge and industry best practices.
  • Fabricate, install, troubleshoot, and repair wire harnesses and assemblies; ensure proper routing and clamping.
  • Represent the group with internal and external customers and other personnel.
  • Conduct training and practical instruction of peers and customers in the use of ground and airborne electronic systems.

Requirements

  • Education or formal training equivalent to the completion of a two-year technical degree or trade school equivalency, plus two or more years of experience in aviation or electronics; equivalent professional experience may substitute for education.
  • Ability to perform a variety of non-routine tasks and demonstrate considerable knowledge of avionics and electronic procedures and principles.
  • Ability to troubleshoot at the component level.
  • Ability to analyze data and recommend solutions.
  • Considerable knowledge and use of electronic test equipment, hand and soldering tools, voltage or amperage measuring and recording devices.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, schematics, and technical orders.
  • Strong analytical, interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills to document, report, and assess situations accurately and make judgments.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment; ability to work extended hours and travel as required.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance.

Qualifications

  • Experience maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing RF systems is desirable.
  • Experience with session layer protocol (TELNET) used on the Internet or local area networks is highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of File Transfer Protocol (FTP) is desirable.
  • Certification in A+, Network+, and Security+ is highly desirable.

  • US Marine Corps: 0631-Network Administrator, 0671-Data Systems Administrator, 1721-Cyber Warfare Operator.
