Department Manager - Construction Services
About the role
The Construction Services Department Manager supports the Construction Materials Testing Department in our Miami, Florida office. This is a high-impact leadership role with responsibility for driving growth, building client relationships, and developing a strong local team in the fast-paced South Florida market.
Responsibilities
Own the overall management of the Miami CMT profit center, including planning, growth, profitability, cost control, employee development, quality control, and client relations.
Drive top-line growth through systematic client-finding: prospecting, networking in the South Florida A/E/C community, responding to RFQs/RFPs, and cross-selling Intertek services.
Set, track, and achieve sales and margin targets for the Miami Construction Materials Testing Department, ensuring performance that is competitive with the local market.
Lead employees to achieve optimal quality, safety, and production, reinforcing Intertek’s “Total Quality. Assured.” culture.
Provide training, coaching, and guidance to technicians and engineers, helping to build a strong bench of local talent.
Oversee management of the internal quality program and accreditation, maintaining compliance with industry standards and client expectations.
Perform project management duties, including scope definition, resource planning, budgeting, and schedule control for CMT and related civil engineering projects.
Lead growth of the Miami Construction Services practice by: Developing and executing a local business development plan focused on Miami-Dade and broader South Florida. Building and maintaining relationships with owners, developers, architects, engineers, and contractors in the South Florida market. Proactively identifying upcoming projects and positioning Intertek-PSI for key pursuits. Cultivating and expanding strong working relationships with public-sector clients, including municipalities, counties, cities, and the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), and effectively navigating their procurement and project delivery processes.
Effectively communicate with a diverse client base and staff; bilingual Spanish/English skills are highly preferred for success in the Miami market.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or relevant experience in the CMT industry is required.
5+ years of leadership, management, and/or project management experience in Construction Materials Testing and/or Geotechnical Engineering is required.
Prior personnel management, hiring, and training experience required.
Strong customer focus and commitment to quality.
Demonstrated experience delivering projects for public-sector clients (municipalities, counties, cities, and/or FDOT), and a solid understanding of their standards, specifications, and contract requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working with clients and staff in the Miami/South Florida market is preferred.
Existing relationships with public-sector clients (municipalities, counties, cities, and/or FDOT) is highly preferred.
Previous staff management experience and P&L responsibilities highly preferred.
Multi-sector experience (private, municipal, FDOT) preferred, especially within the South Florida region.
Established network in the Miami / South Florida A/E/C community and proven ability to generate new business opportunities highly preferred.
