Department Intern - Municipal Court Probation - Seasonal
This is an internship position within the Municipal Court Probation department, offering hands-on experience in the criminal justice field. The role involves clerical and paraprofessional duties supporting probation services, including direct interaction with defendants, case management, and court-related paperwork. The internship is designed to provide practical learning and skill development under professional supervision and will not exceed one year, though it may be renewable.

The Department Intern performs a range of tasks from clerical to paraprofessional duties that support the administration of probation services. Work may include both office-based tasks (e.g., data entry, case filing, document processing) and fieldwork requiring mobility and interaction with diverse populations. The intern gains exposure to probation processes, legal documentation, and court protocols while working under close supervision.

- Performs intern-level work as assigned by the department.
- Completes work assignments that may require operating a vehicle.
- Other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Level of knowledge appropriate to the work being assigned.
- Ability to use a computer to access, interpret, and record information.
- Ability to lean and reach to read and interpret large plans or specifications (e.g., 36 by 48 inches with small print).
- May require research, analysis, summarization, and reporting of findings.
- May require working outdoors in inclement weather, tolerating airborne nuisances (e.g., dust, wind), or navigating uneven terrain and construction sites.
- Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with associates, representatives of other organizations, and the public.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to safely perform physical requirements specific to the internship assignment.
- Must be 18 years or older.
- May require a valid Kansas Driver’s License.
- Offers of employment are contingent upon passing a pre-employment physical (including drug screening) and a satisfactory criminal record check.
