Responsibilities

  • Perform maintenance, repair and replacement services on commercial heating and cooling systems.
  • Partner with Journeymen in the repair of centrifugal, steam turbines, absorption machines, open-drive screw chillers and ammonia systems.
  • Provide the highest level of service to solve facility inefficiencies and resolve service-related items.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to customers, providing solutions and outcomes at the time of commissioning and aftermarket service.
  • Provide recommendations and solutions to ensure facilities are running efficiently, including upselling opportunities.
  • Provide quotes to support recommendations and solutions.
  • Install complete systems (chillers, rooftop units, plumbing and all supporting mechanical systems).
  • Perform mechanical shaft alignment using dial indicators, laser, etc. on pumps, fans, and compressors.
  • Use vibration equipment to troubleshoot drivelines.
  • Work with other local market mechanics, servicemen, and apprentices, providing on-the-job training when necessary.
  • Communicate with customers about problems, causes, and corrective actions in writing and verbally.
  • Participate in Johnson Controls’ Service Plus Rewards program.

Requirements

  • Minimum of eight (8) years of commercial and/or industrial mechanical troubleshooting experience in the HVAC industry and industrial petrochemical or data center vertical environments, including rooftop units, pumps, fans, towers, boilers, chillers, compressors, and plumbing.
  • Ability to repair centrifugal compressors, steam turbines, screw chillers, and/or ammonia/hydrocarbon system components.
  • Maintain ammonia and hydrocarbon safety training certification.
  • Universal EPA refrigerants license, applicable state or local licensing, and valid driver’s license.
  • Must be a member or willing to join the United Association of Journeymen and Apprentices of the Plumbing and Pipe Fitting Industry of the United States and Canada, AFL-CIO.
  • Willingness to travel 50-75% of the time as part of the Travel Team; occasional travel of 10% to 20% may also be required.
  • Pass a knowledge examination to assess proficiencies.
  • Enroll in training programs to gain knowledge in HVAC products and sales quoting.
  • Attention to detail through interpersonal, digital, and written skills.
  • Self-starter with a passion and desire to learn and apply on the job, prioritizing safety in all forms.

Pay

$41 hourly rate determined by the collective bargaining agreement (CBA) rate sheet.
