About the role

We are looking for skilled HVAC Mechanics with practical work experience in HVAC piping, plumbing, pipefitting, and/or mechanical equipment service. The scope of work is limited to commercial HVACR service. Mechanics may partner with Journeymen in the repair of centrifugal, steam turbines, absorption machines, open-drive screw chillers, and ammonia systems. You will perform maintenance, repair, and replacement services on commercial heating and cooling systems.

As a trusted advisor to our customers, you will provide solutions and outcomes at the time of commissioning and aftermarket service, ensuring facilities run efficiently. You will also provide quotes to support recommendations and identify upselling opportunities.

Responsibilities

  • Troubleshoot, repair, and perform aftermarket services for commercial HVACR systems.
  • Repair centrifugal compressors, steam turbines, screw chillers, and ammonia/hydrocarbon system components.
  • Install complete systems, including chillers, rooftop units, plumbing, and supporting mechanical systems.
  • Perform mechanical shaft alignment using dial indicators, laser, etc., on pumps, fans, and compressors.
  • Use vibration equipment to troubleshoot drivelines.
  • Travel 10% to 20% to support branch customer activities, including troubleshooting, installation, and repair.
  • Enroll in training programs to gain knowledge in HVAC products and sales quoting.
  • Work with local market mechanics, servicemen, and apprentices, providing on-the-job training when necessary.
  • Communicate effectively with customers regarding problems, causes, and corrective actions, and provide quotes.
  • Participate in Johnson Controls’ Service Plus Rewards program.

Requirements

  • Minimum of eight (8) years of commercial and/or industrial mechanical troubleshooting experience in the HVAC industry, including rooftop units, pumps, fans, towers, boilers, chillers, compressors, and plumbing.
  • Experience in Industrial Petrochemical or Data Center vertical environments.
  • Maintain ammonia and hydrocarbon safety training certification.
  • Universal EPA refrigerant license, applicable state or local licensing, and a valid driver’s license.
  • Must be a member or willing to join the United Association of Journeymen and Apprentices of the Plumbing and Pipe Fitting Industry of the United States and Canada, AFL-CIO.
  • Pass a knowledge examination to assess proficiencies.
  • Strong interpersonal, digital, and written communication skills.
  • Self-starter with a passion for learning and applying skills on the job.
  • Prioritize safety in all aspects of work.

Pay

$43.05 hourly rate, determined by the collective bargaining agreement (CBA) rate sheet.

This is a bargaining unit position subject to all pre-hiring screening of Johnson Controls. With successful performance, Johnson Controls may recommend you to the Union Local apprenticeship program and continued employment. Acceptance by the Union Local must occur within 365 days of employment or will result in termination. This is not a guarantee of employment or entry into the Union.
