Who We AreSustaining Our Urban Landscape (SOUL) was founded in 2016 with the mission of creating a resilient and environmentally equitable New Orleans through reforesting the city. SOUL engages community volunteers to plant and care for trees and has planted more than 13,000 trees since its founding. Trees serve as natural systems and infrastructure by mitigating flooding, reducing air pollution and temperatures, improving community health, and providing beauty and shade. SOUL is a growing organization that operates with an entrepreneurial mindset. The work is tangible, rewarding, often challenging, and requires excellent interpersonal skills. Position DescriptionThe Data and Outreach Coordinator is a full-time, exempt, salaried position responsible for managing SOUL’s tree data and mapping systems, and leading community outreach in project neighborhoods. The position works closely with the Program and Field teams to ensure that outreach, tree mapping, and data collection effectively support SOUL’s Community Forestry Program. During planting season, October–March, approximately 50% of the workweek occurs outdoors in the field. During the planting off-season, April–September, the position is primarily focused on outreach planning, data analysis, mapping, systems improvement, and preparation for the upcoming planting season. The position requires unloading and organizing trees in the field and the ability to lift and move 15-gallon trees. The candidate must be comfortable working in all weather conditions.ResponsibilitiesData, Mapping, and ReportingStay current on best practices and technologies for mapping trees and calculating their environmental and community benefits.Communicate relevant findings to the Executive Director and recommend improvements to SOUL’s data systems and practices.Ensure trees are mapped accurately during planting events and correctly stored in SOUL’s data management system.Enter tree data into i-Tree and other applicable systems to calculate environmental benefits following planting.Interpret and prepare data for funder reports and public-facing materials, including SOUL’s website, social media, sponsorship appeals, and other communications.Create clear, printable maps that illustrate SOUL’s work, planting progress, and impact.Use ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online to analyze demographic, environmental, tree-canopy, and Tree Equity data and identify priority planting areas.Create maps of selected project neighborhoods to support resident engagement, outreach planning, and planting-area selection.Maintain accurate and accessible program data that supports organizational planning, evaluation, and reporting.Community OutreachCreate and implement an outreach strategy to increase participation in and visibility of SOUL’s Community Forestry Program within partner communities.Design outreach processes to identify and connect with future community partners in neighborhoods prioritized through the New Orleans Reforestation Plan, Tree Equity Score, and environmental justice indicators.Help develop programmatic and organizational strategies for engaging communities with low tree-canopy coverage and increasing tree planting and care.Establish and maintain relationships with partner organizations, institutions, neighborhood associations, community leaders, and residents in project neighborhoods.Lead outreach initiatives, including door-to-door canvassing, attending and speaking at community meetings, and tabling at community events.Represent SOUL at community meetings and events.Field and respond to community inquiries and residents’ questions, coordinating with the Program and Field teams as needed.Recruit and manage community ambassadors in selected project neighborhoods.Create digital and printed outreach materials that facilitate community engagement.Support planting and maintenance events, including securing basecamp locations and other neighborhood-based resources.Organizational SupportHelp facilitate organizational events as needed.Work closely with the Communications Coordinator and Program Coordinator to accomplish shared programmatic and organizational goals.Assist with other duties as needed and contribute to a collaborative, flexible team environment.ReportingThe Data and Outreach Coordinator reports to the Executive Director and works closely with the Operations Director. Time CommitmentsDuring planting season, October–March, the schedule is five days per week, including Saturdays. A weekday may be flexed to offset Saturday events. During the off-season, April–September, the schedule is generally Monday through Friday. The Data and Outreach Coordinator must be available for planting and maintenance events and willing to adjust their schedule based on event needs and weather conditions.Required/Preferred Skills and ExperienceMinimum two years of experience in an outreach- and/or data-related role.Degree in landscape architecture, urban planning, geography, environmental science, community development, or a related field.Experience with ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online.Experience with field data collection and i-Tree or similar tools is preferred.Valid Louisiana driver’s license and clean driving record.Ability to manage a portfolio of projects in various stages of development.Outstanding organizational skills, including scheduling, event planning, logistics, and data management.Ability to build relationships and coordinate residents and volunteers from a variety of backgrounds.Ability to take direction while also working independently and taking initiative.Entrepreneurial mindset and willingness to contribute across the organization.Flexibility and adaptability in response to changing priorities, event needs, and weather conditions.Ability to remain calm under pressure and resolve conflicts effectively.Excellent writing, editing, verbal communication, and public-speaking skills.Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.Sincere commitment to collaborating with staff, board members, volunteers, donors, program participants, community partners, and other supporters.Proficiency in Spanish and/or Vietnamese.Comfort working outdoors in varied weather conditions and ability to lift and move 15-gallon trees.Interest in and commitment to environmental sustainability, urban forestry, and environmental equity.Desire to contribute to a fast-paced and growing nongovernmental organization.Work Schedule and CompensationSalary is $60,000.
