Customs Brokerage Coordinator

About the Role

This position is responsible for various tasks related to customs brokerage and compliance, ensuring adherence to FedEx Express expectations and government regulations. Key duties include decision-making for release-related tasks, assigning work to appropriate queues, processing live/quota entries, FDA/FWS entries, scrolling, voids/deletes, and voluntary entries using computer skills in a Windows environment.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain uniform business practices and procedures to ensure compliance with customs and other government agency (OGA) laws and regulations.
  • Analyze documentation to determine the harmonized tariff number and eligibility for special tariff treatments (e.g., NAFTA, reduced duty rates).
  • Ensure all government agency regulations are followed and required information is submitted or transmitted electronically.
  • Classify imported merchandise by determining the proper tariff classification, associated duty rate, and calculating entered value using tariff books and FedEx systems.
  • Contact customers to resolve classification questions or obtain required government documentation for entry.
  • Complete the release and classification processing of aged shipments after obtaining missing information or documentation, or move to the proper queue for processing.
  • Answer inquiries from FedEx Express and customers about the clearance status of shipments.
  • Access the internet, FedEx systems, customer databases, spreadsheets, and manifest scrolling tools.
  • Communicate with customers, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), and other government agencies to obtain necessary release information.
  • Analyze and research unapplied cash and non-payments using accounting systems (ODQ) and mainframe applications.
  • Make necessary adjustments to FedEx accounts as requested by management.
  • Process monthly and additional invoices for FedEx Express.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Two (2) years of business experience required, including one (1) year of related business experience preferred.
  • Six (6) months of brokerage, transportation, or customer service experience preferred.
  • Strong working knowledge of CBP regulations, harmonized tariff, and OGA regulations preferred.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, Outlook, and office equipment (phone, fax, photocopier, printer, scanner).
  • Knowledge of HTS classification and familiarity with the harmonized tariff system.
  • Knowledge of U.S. Customs regulations and other federal regulations.
  • Must have customs brokerage experience.
  • Candidates must reside within 50 miles of Elk Grove Village, Illinois.

Pay

Total Base Pay Range: $22.64 - $31.70 USD Hourly

Schedule

Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM / Hybrid
