Job Responsibilities
- Prepare and process customs documentation for importing and exporting goods, including verifying the accuracy of invoices, packing lists, and customs declarations.
- Complete various forms required for customs clearance, such as commercial invoices, bills of lading, and certificates of origin, TSCA forms, Steel & Aluminum, etc.
- Work with shipping carriers, freight forwarders, and third-party logistics providers to ensure smooth transportation and delivery.
- Request freight quotes to service providers and book freight loads.
- Liaise with U.S., Mexico and Canada Customs and brokers to ensure clearance of goods.
- Prepares all free trade agreement certificates and origin compliance documents of origin on behalf of the ABC plants in Canada, USA, and Mexico.
- Cook up customs documents of special equipment as needed.
- Request USMCA and other Free Trade Agreements certificates from suppliers for all the plants in Canada and the USA and Mexico.
- Assisting with data entry tasks related to logistics reporting, shipment tracking, and customs documentation.
- Analyze data to identify trends, patterns, and opportunities for process improvement in customs and logistics operations.
- Maintain accurate records of shipments, including bills of lading, commercial invoices, packing lists, and customs paperwork.
- Communicate with plant personnel, engineering teams, and buyers to secure documents from suppliers and ensure customs compliance.
- Act as the primary contact point for any queries regarding customs regulations and traffic management.
- Provides HS code classifications for all plants when needed.
- Afford compliance support by assisting in ensuring compliance with customs regulations, trade laws, and international shipping requirements by following established procedures and guidelines.
- Participate in internal audits or checks to ensure that customs documentation and processes meet regulatory standards.
- Ensures corporate compliance with Canada, Mexico and U.S. customs legislation.
- Supporting special projects or initiatives aimed at improving customs clearance processes, optimizing transportation routes, or enhancing supply chain efficiency.
- Collaborate with team members to brainstorm ideas, gather data, and implement solutions to address challenges or opportunities in customs and logistics operations.
Job Qualifications
- Minimum 5-7 years of relevant experience in a logistics, customs operations, or transportation coordination role.
- Knowledge of supply chain management and the movement of goods across borders.
- Experience in the automotive or manufacturing industry is a strong advantage.
- Knowledge of international customs laws, trade regulations, and compliance requirements.
- Prior experience working with customs brokers, freight forwarders, or third-party logistics providers.
- Hands-on experience with classification, tariff codes, and customs documentation such as commercial invoices, packing lists, and certificates of origin.
- Experience with logistics or transportation management software (e.g., SAP, Oracle, TMS systems, etc.).
- Ability to communicate effectively with various internal teams (e.g., production, procurement, legal) and external partners (e.g., customs authorities, freight forwarders, vendors).
- Strong negotiation skills when dealing with suppliers, carriers, or regulatory authorities.
- Strong attention to detail in processing documentation and managing complex logistics tasks.
- The capacity to collect, analyze, and interpret data related to logistics operations, transportation costs, and supply chain performance.
- The willingness to learn and adapt to new processes, procedures, and regulations in the dynamic field of customs and logistics.
- Awareness of cultural differences and customs regulations in different countries.
- A commitment to providing excellent service to internal and external customers, resolving inquiries or issues related to logistics and customs clearance.
- Proficient in using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) for documentation, reporting, and analysis.
Education and Certifications
- Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Relevant certifications in customs, trade, and/or transportation are beneficial.
- Certified Customs Specialist (CCS) designation.
